Early Arrival passes...has anyone received theirs yet?

Post by fleabag » Thu Aug 02, 2007 8:55 pm

I don't remember any mention of WHEN we should expect the passes for our camp crew that is heading in early. We haven't received any messages from the BMOrg re: anything- except that they received our request.

So if anyone has any news....either info, or whether you've already received your passes, let me know so I can rest easier!

Fleabag (and others) I'll tell you this....

I've been by the BM office the last three evenings in a row and I swear people are NUTS trying to get things done. At this point it seems like there's a shuffling of priorities so that things can get rolling and a city gets built. And I *KNOW* it can get people frustrated but...

Having said that I'd suggest trying to practice patience because I believe that 1) you'll get what you need JUST in the nick of time and 2) complaining/calling/emailing/visiting the office/threatening litigation/etc. won't get you anywhere or anything. Every staff person, every volunteer is currently in the slot doing what needs to get done. Phone calls and emails at this point are, for the most part a distraction and it seems unlikely that you'll get the response you crave.

Still, I bet you a big frosty beer that what you need is what you're gonna get just when it seems you've been forgotten.

Thanks Badger- I can appreciate that everyone is hard at work at HQ...as we are setting up everything for our camp.

Patience is certainly a virtue- nonetheless, it would be terrific if someone has heard something and posted info here on this thread- exactly because I don't want to trouble the elves at HQ.

Thanks for your response.

Badger said it best. Can't believe some jerk threatened litigation but don't doubt it.

Good point BBS.

I've had mine for a few weeks (hint to those expecting paper and post).

Check your last few weeks of email.

I know this topic is about "Early Arrival Passes" but I'm getting anxious. Did those of you who've received passes get early arrival passes or weekend arrival passes?

I'm waiting for weekend arrival passes.

I'm waiting for weekend arrival passes.

Yup me too! I believe that is what is being discussed here. The arrangements for earlier arrival are much different than the weekend arrival from what I understand.

quoted from someone on the placement team

Post by [email protected] » Sun Aug 05, 2007 7:24 pm

This is from someone on the placement team, posted to tribe.net:
sorry for the delay. weekend-arrival passes started going out
by email on wednesday, so lots of camps have them already.
it just turned out to be a more massive undertaking than expected,
thanks for everyone's patience, no disrespect intended. our
heads hurt too

each pass had to be converted to a pdf, and each emailed out
separately. many many thousands to keep track of and to send out.
have been watching them go out for a few days now, so keep an
eye out for them, they're on their way.

please remember, they're going directly to the
main contact-person of each camp, and some has lots of files
attached. don't know how that affects delivery, my geekiness
is severely limited. if you're really really concerned about
something, contact your placer. as always!

thanks again for hanging in there --

cheers!

WEEKEND ARRIVALS

Post by russell prevost » Mon Aug 06, 2007 6:37 am

HEY, I GOT AN EMAIL FROM MY PLACER SAT 4TH, beta area, SHE SAID SHE WOULD GET THEM OUT OVER THE WEEKEND BUT NOTHING YET. I REALIZE THEY HAVE A LOT TO DO BUT WE ALSO HAVE PLANS TO MAKE, SOME HAVE TO TAKE SAT OFF WORK, OR NOT, THEY NEED TO KNOW. SEEMS IT WORKED BETTER LAST YEAR. BY THE WAY THE DEADLINE TO HAVE THEM OUT TO US WAS 7/30. THEY HAVE HAD SOME COMPUTER PROBLEMS, WISH I COULD HELP HER, BUT I'M SURE IT WILL BE SOON.

howdy, this is gomonk with the placement team.
we attempted to send out the Weekend-Arrival passes over
the last few days. a lot of them did get out.
in fact, we were sending out so many, that our individual
ISP's froze our accounts, assuming we were spammers!
(we all are volunteers, working from home accounts).
even google (gmail) locked one of us out!

each email comes with a number of attachments, thus the load.
we placers just aren't geeky enough to have figured that out.
we do better in the dust.

we're sending out simple emails today, to the camps that have not
received theirs yet. it will tell you the NUMBER you will be receiving,
so that you can plan. the actual passes will be sent in the next day
or so. google willing.

thanks for your patience!

I am sure I speak for many in thanking gomonk+for all his efforts including the explanation and solution posted above. We have yet to receive our"simple"email but we trust in The Gods.

Even so we are left with the fact that with over 700 theme camps now and millions of man hours and dollars combined it seems the project may be nearing a point where volunteers are asked to do too much.Placement team is being very taxed and WWW/Playa calendar struggled mightily with an unprecedented number of events from an unprecedented number of theme camps. The Project is not getting any smaller and its gets harder being a theme camp organizer every year due to these sorts of built in problems that are out of our control.

We would gladly pay a Theme Camp Tax if all proceeds went to making the theme camp experience just a little less trying for everyone concerned.
Be careful. You can spend all your money in there..............................Oriental Visitor
