Greets, Grins and Grinds

Post by mari » Tue Aug 07, 2007 10:35 pm

Greets all you fine folks. This is it for me, my virgin burn. The stars are lined up, the eclipse is scheduled and my bags are packed...er...well...not really, fudging on that last one....
I live within the fine 7x7 bubble known as San Francisco. 2006 was a monumental year for me....made the break out of my marriage of 15 years to an artist who had no interest in burning man and related activities. Living in SF, I found myself surrounded with interesting, kind, quirky, kinky, artistic, free thinking folks who all had the burner culture in common. I play corporate manager by day but at night, feel the call of bohemian. Now free to express and explore on my own, it's time I make the pilgrimage. In October 2006, my sister died after a 25 year battle w/ cancer....a wake up call to me, that each day is more precious than the last and I looked to put some play back into my day. Discovered hoopdance and am in love with everything about it. Part of my goal going to the burn is to hug hug all these hoopers I have come to know via tribe. I feel like it's going to be a family reunion. I know these peeps, their trials and tribulations, up, downs, joys and frustrations, but never have I heard their voices or gazed into their eyes, just like my long lost relatives that live away from me in middle Amerika. In July 2006, my one and only son turned 25, a landmark age for him and for me, this is about the time, the burning experience started to really call my name. Ritual is important and needed. I just turned 50 in July 2007. I celebrated my 40th during a brilliant sunrise on the top of Haleakala.....BRC seems the most appropriate destination to mark my 50th....hoop in hand.
I am somewhat shy and great at second guessing myself. I will be camping solo but it looks like with some planning and skill, I can pack my Element vehicle to allow me to offer a ride from SF to BRC. I am hip, hop and comfortable. I like to go with the flow and the flow seems to be happy with it too....
So, here to you I present myself...greets all....grins to come and grinds promised......my name is mari (pronouced...mary) or celestialgrrrl....
Any words of wisdom? Ideas for me about connections/camps/lending a hand.....?

ps....too much information? hope not
Show me ways and means and motions
Show me what it's like to be
Give me days of deep devotions
Show me things I cannot see.

While I am astounded that anyone can live in sf just down the street from the playa, and not have gone, I guess it happens.
Welcome to the playa.
There are some amazing hoopy folks.

This is the clack, clack, clack part of the ride...

I was just trying to help you out Pyro, and you tattle on yourself about the naked Barbie Dolls!! Did they ever make a "Stripper Barbie"? "High Class CallGirl Barbie"? Perhaps this would be a good representation of your ideas!! HA! HA! HA! I wanted to know if I could tie a couple of your Barbies on my Double Staves for a Flamin' Good Time for All!!

The High Class Call Girl Barbie has been around for years.
See Malibu Barbie.

Someone in sf has been doing Trailer Trash Barbie and S and M Barbie and so on, despite the displeasure of mattel.

Hello, my name is Jenifur Elizabeth Melody. This burning man will be my first act as an adult, and i am greatly looking forward to it. Last year i backed out of going 4 hours before leaving, giving into my gut instinct, not trusting the conditions i was going under. I live in Orange County, Ca. Yes, i believe that is about it ^_^

Ahoy hoy, I'm Nick, and this will be my first burn. I've spent the past month practicing for poi with socks and rice, and I've been using a variant of Sylvia Plath's method for adjusting to the heat. I don't yet have a camp, or really any sort of plan, but that's all part of the adventure...right?

new to this forum - have many questions

Post by DJKultleader » Sat Aug 11, 2007 12:23 am

Greetings fellow burners.
Time is moving so darn fast as departure time draws closer... I am in frantic anxiety mode and my heart beats faster with every minute! Gathering last minute items and solidifying plans.. Yikes...I am very excited about this years burn if I didn't make that clear. This will be Burn # 9 for me... After a five year break last year was my first time back to the playa and boy did I have a great time! But holy Bejesus have some things changed! I can't believe they have kids out there and no fires allowed in camps and all sorts of rules that just did not exist when I was going regularly.. Not to mention no Hot Springs and they Burn the man on Saturday instead of Sunday...WHOA! and what the hell happened to $60 tickets.....Shit happens when your away though right......
There is so much new info to read on this web site and I know I will never have time to get it all in before I leave... So can someone please post a reply and let me know what I need to do to get my scooter DMV permitted? I got this really cool EPA certified scooter with a muffler and I am decking it out super cool with fur and making it look like a mini monster... Its got a seat and lots of cool lights and I have been toying with the idea of building a side car... This year our theme will be a small three person crew... We are the Block Rock City Fashion Police and We will be out issuing citations for non-compliance of the Black Rock City Undress Code and Dress code...Because some things were just never meant to be worn and flip flops should never be worn in the NUDE! (high heels are ok at anytime....so long as you shave your legs....) on the spot enforcement will be implemented....

Welcome back home!

Ah, the deadline for mutant vehicles is long past, but here's the info, anyway. As a scooter it won't fly, and beware just bringing it in, there's an ipound lot at the gate. Not what you wanted to hear huh? but you can always check ...

http://www.burningman.com/on_the_playa/ ... s/dmv.html

From the survival guide:
Scooters and Go-Peds

Small motorized scooters (two-wheeled, lightweight, standup, off-street type), and go-peds are allowed in Black Rock City, but they are subject to the same rules as any other motorized vehicles - drive 5 MPH and have front and rear lights at night. BLM Rangers will issue citations for non-compliance.

Large, seated, street-legal "Vespa" type scooters, like motorcycles, are not allowed to drive in our pedestrian and bicycle city.

Hello beautiful people. I'm PEZ. If all goes well this will be my first year at BM. I've been looking forward to this for years now and finally I can make it.

My interests are very eclectic but mainly I enjoy body modification and clay. Maybe next year I'll bring my wheel and build a wood burning kiln so I can make pots on the playa.

I'm also seeking a ride to and from the event. I have a severely discounted ticket for anyone willing to take a friend and myself. Hit me up if you live around LA and might be solution to my ride issue.

Over and out,
PEZ

Hello everyone … I have been reading this board for 5 years, I’ve had this logon for 2.5 (rarely post) but this will be my first Burn!! YA!!!! I am existed but a little nervous at the same time. My long time off again on again boyfriend (but always my friend) introduced me to this event in 2001 and I have been curious ever since. This however is the first year everything has lined up for me to go. I will be coming with my guy and since this is like his 5th or 6th burn I know what to expect logistically but other then that I have no expectations. I am just looking forward to a nice long over due vacation. I hope to have a good time and make lots of new friends!!

My name is Joe D., I live in the San Francisco Bay area, this is my first trip to Burning Man, and I'm coming solo. I'm renting a 9 passenger Dodge van and taking all the seats out except the driver's seat to make room for my stuff, and to sleep inside. I used to be a lawyer but figured out a way not to have to do that anymore. I like to travel, ride motorcycles (rode to Alaska in July). I've read all the available info on Burning Man, watched the video "Beyond Black Rock", and think I have everything figured out.
I'm not sure how a solo fits into the group camping deal (join a theme camp? random assignment upon arrival? whatever?). But I'm flexible so I'm sure I'll figure it out.

addictions to alternative lifestyles

Post by ziggidy » Mon Aug 13, 2007 12:21 am

Hello, I'm Zach, and...I'm not an addict of the playa, although I've been burning the man down with other people since 2001. I find that going to the burn every other year does me just fine. I love it so much. It's like "More Than A Feeling", by Boston, though. The potential for overplay is massive.

So I make art and hang with my daughter, and we swing at the park, I don't have a job, did I mention that? I took a leap of faith two years ago and got rid of my job. And it was the best thing I ever could have done for my health. Sure, money's tight sometimes, but my quality of life has shot through the roof, and my spare time has gone directly into art and child.

I recommend that if you are unsatisfied with your cubicle life, and Burning Man is your "Getaway", you should quit your job. The less of us working for large corporations or subsidiaries of said corporations, etc...buyers of goods and services from said corporations, the less 1984/Brave New World-ish our world will get! Dass all fo now.

Hey Burners, this is Secret Operative Bear.
This will be my fourth year as a volunteer at BRC with Recycle Camp.
I'm kinda freakin out because I'm leaving really SOON.

Free Advise:
a. Bring extra chapstick, goggles, lighters and rolling papers.
b. If Bear wanders into your camp DO NOT give Bear Wiskey!
c. Bear will be happy to assist you in destroying evidence.
d. DO NOT wash yourself in the non-potable water trucks, there ARE
harmfull mico-organisms it the water. BELIVE DAT!
e. Bear IS single, smart and devastatingly handsome.
f. BRING YOUR ALUMINUM CANS TO RECYCLE CAMP.

Hiya, Names Ian I'm from Ashland Oregon and this will be my first year. I enjoy the outdoors and i can't wait to get dirty out on the playa. Don't know about you all but I am anxious to finally have a vacation and experience a life changing event. Currently I am looking for a lift to BM and I hope that there is a caravan coming through Oregon that has a seat open. I am traveling fairly light and can pay in any way suitable to the driver. This may not be the right post to be looking for a lift and I apologize preemptively. Ill hitch if I have too so ill see you all their!

Hi kinnari, hello Ian! Glad to hear you're making the trek out this year---yes, chances are that it will be very exciting, eye-opening, and magical at the same time. This will be my 5th year out, and it does get deeper each time...but...NOTHING BEATS THAT FIRST TIME :D :D :D Like with alot of things, the first time usually feels pretty damn special- this event opened my heart to the potential of what (art+will=dreams) could really be. Yes...be excited....be very, VERY excited...
