Hello all,

As everyone on here who actually registered on burningman.com to post something for the simple fact that they are SO FUCKING EXCITED for this year's burn, I had to post my thoughts. I'm having an issue that I hope I can get some help on:

Each year, I go topless around my camp and the playa until it gets too cold in the late afternoon. Last year I went topless until all of my friends arrived with their significant others in an effort not to make anyone feel uncomfortable. This was not a problem as my husband and I always arrive first and there are about 3 days where I can wear/not wear whatever I want.

This year one of our friends is coming up with us on Monday, and his wife is coming much later. I feel a little uncomfortable going topless in front of him, even though I've already spoken to his wife, who really doesn't seem to care at all. What do you think? I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable, but this is the only time of year when I can take the girls out and give them some sunshine. It means a lot to them!

I hardly see how you going topless at Burning Man of all places could offend anyone. If someone's sensibilities are on such high-alert, they probably will be offended long before they hit the gas station at Empire.

You mention that you feel uncomfortable with being topless in front of one person. Perhaps there is something there that you need to understand better. Think about why you are uncomfortable being topless in front of this person, but not in front of others.

Weirdest thing about Americans is their ability to be deluged with pictures, movies, books, magazines, etc, that are extremely graphic in sexual nature, yet these same people get nervous about being seen in the very acts they like to see!!
Naturally, we all like to be around others who are like us somewhat. I believe that if you just be the true you, and I just be the true me, we all will gravitate toward our own types.
Now the shirtcockers are a form of visual sexual ambush by their nature, and I personally don't like when people use such tactics for attention. Probably the same guys who do the trenchcoat flashing in the default world.

It seems that you are the one with the problem, not anyone else? The beauty of BRC is that you get to live the way you always wanted to for one week out of the year!

I understand it can be different with people you know in the default world, seeing parts of you they would normally NEVER see. But the reality is that a little toplessness never hurt anyone, and you should not limit yourself due to these feelings you are having.

You may want to acknowledge your feelings with this person on Monday (or upon arrival), talk it over, then have them help you take your top off to put the whole issue to rest.

It's always nice to consider others feelings, but you must do what's important for your mental health as well.

Last year I camped with a male co-worker and a couple guys who are in a band with me in the real world. I thought going topless would be weird and uncomfortable, but found that everyone was doing their own thing, and no one felt uncomfortable about it.

Thank of how many other husbands, wives, and significant others you see naked or who see you topless as they wander by the whole time. Why focus on just one person?

Let them have the sun they crave the 353 other days of the year!

I go topless on the playa - except when I work Center Camp(yahoo/photo factor) and my strangest moment was in 05...I'm hanging out in the public area of our theme camp, and these two 12 year olds ride up on bikes - one calls me by name, and I realize he's the son of a very close friend back in defaultia...the only thimg I can think of to say is"where's your mother?" Duh! He was mostly interested in my camelbak, my exposed 'girls' had zero noticeable impact *sigh* - Moral: it's probably all in YOUR head.....
