Malcom In The Middle - Burning Man Episode...
Ok so I dont know if this has ben posted up on the eplaya before... Either way I found it to be entertaining despite its lack of accuracy. So the following is an episode of Malcom In The Middle, where the whole family goes to Burning Man and each family member ends up having their own little journey and what not... It looks as though this may have actually been filmed on the playa, though it is most defenitly not filmed at Burning Man. There is a few things I noticed that were completley off, for instance there is a part where one of the kids steps on a fuckin cactus... Which for those of us who have been there know that there are really no other forms of life out there besides the Mantis bugs that get blown in with the wind storms. Reguardless, there are no cactus. There is also another part that has a sign that reads "Dumping Grounds". Which obviosly dont exist. That would defeat the whole "Leave No Trace" policy. Anyhow check it out, its funny either way, its in 3 blocks. Tell me what you think...

The cactus was pretty bogus. They probably intended it to be rebar but didn't think their audience would get the reference. The rocks Dewey gathered were also suspect, but he could have been bitching because he had to walk all the way out to the highway to find them. Overall it probably captured the essence of BM better than any of the other shows that have used it as a location.
They probably filmed it closer to LA.

I thought it covered the variety of experiences out there very well.
Try to do a better explanation in twenty minutes.
I missed it when it first ran because, you know, burning man.
I kept looking for it, but I could never see it.
I was visiting a friend that drove me to the plane last year and that I really wanted to take out there.
He had been everywhere in very fast cars and knew Gerlach instantly.
On hard times now, he couldn't afford to go.
As he was changing tv shows, on a whim I asked him to check Malcolm and there was the lost episode.
So we finally got to see it and he got a taste of the playa, at least.
He got the flu shortly after and wouldn't go to a doctor until he was in trouble.
I thought he was going to make it, but too many complications, too much delay, too much hard living.
That was the last bit of fun we had.
I'm glad he got that much of a taste anyway.
He would have been a great burner.
He would have made a lot of trouble.
It was really nice to be able to explain things using that show.

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.

It's like a Melies film of burning man.
If it was any more pro burning man, it would just be a promo.
I'm still very impressed with it.

a wonderful show....La Familia Dobbs had a hand in that series, and it shows...
Brilliant tv, a rarity.
if you like that you might enjoy EERIE INDIANA, a short lived piece of beautiful weirdness that many of the same writers worked on...many were directed by joe dante.

I saw the Malcolm In The Middle Episode back in December of 2008. I had just been laid off and was watching afternoon TV. I said to myself "That can't be a real event?" So after doing some researching and finding out it WAS a real event, I decided I was going to go this year. I got my ticket, my tent and my theme camp to camp with. Now I just need to find a cute Shaman to suck the cactus infection from my bare foot.
