looking to possibly join a camp...

Post by hellojoesmith » Thu Aug 09, 2007 10:17 pm

Hey there - 1st time burner here. Here's my deal;

I'm looking for a camp, but don't need much from it. I'll be pretty self-sufficient (food, water, tent, travel, etc.), and am pretty good at meeting people so I'm not worried about that. Just figured since I'm going by myself it'd be good to be surrounded by a few veteren burners, as well as be able to share some things that are harder to set up as an individual; shower, kitchen, shade structures, etc.

What I have to give; creative energy, volunteer time, whatever supplies I can spare, a hand in building something, my share of the cleaning/maintaining, a joke, a shampoo, an open mind, etc. Whatcha need?

I'm pretty open as to the theme (or lack of one). Camps with an opening (and with moderate join fee)?

Thanks -

Joe

I'm not sure what kind of shower and shade they'll have to use but you might want to check out Stag camp. A lot of people who want to have an idea of where they'll be and what will be around them, are joining this camp. I think it was just started by a veteran Fat Sam on here to get some solo or small groups of people together.

If you want somewhat more of a theme or interactive camp you might check out the theme camp listing here or on the burningman site and drop some e-mails to ones that look good to you. You also may want to give a better description of what you'd like to do for the camp. For example, if you'd like to put in an hour a day, work a single 8 hour shift, donate $450, or whatever it is. Some put in more and expect more out, so if you're upfront and clear about what you want to contribute and the types of things you'll need to borrow (kitchen, shower, etc), you'll more easily find the type of camp you want. You don't want to get stuck with a camp that expects more out than you're willing to give.

Thanks man. Have been checking out Stag Camp and emailed Fat SAM RE: shower, etc. ANd I'll investigate the other theme camps as well, and figure out what level I want to participate (I'm leaning more towards minimal - just some pooling of basic resources which I'd help out with via worktime and maybe a bit of money.)

Thanks for the insights :)

I know of a famous camp with some openings.
Some fair amount of labor and a buy in.
Email me if you might be interested (not pm).
I'll refer you.
