Does anyone have a GPS map of BRC 2007

Post by Megaflow » Fri Aug 10, 2007 4:00 pm

Does anyone know if any GPS maps of BRC for 2007? Last year there was one posted that you could load into your GPS device. It was very helpful. I was wondering if anyone was going to publish one this year

Yes and no.

AFAIK the GPS datum for the golden spike has not been released.
Also would need one more datum to determine angle of the clock WRT North.

Despite this, William has done a first pass of the map which may or may not be accurate due to the lack of the above two points.

The 2005 map kicked serious butt. In 2006 it was several degrees off in reference to North.

I make no guarantees, but it should be quite accurate this year.

I asked for and received the information from the city planner. Additionally, I have it on good authority that the survey team loaded it and used it to verify the location of the man and the true north-south line.

Edit:
Secondary download site is here, in cause there are any problems with that main one above:

la-z-boy, have you accessed the data from mapcenter and loaded it into a GPS unit? I'd like to make sure it's working.

la-z-boy, that is fantastic news. I had so much fun with the map in 2005.

Thanks for the effort.

2007 BRC GPS MAP

Post by czar » Thu Aug 23, 2007 11:25 am

here's my version of black rock city, garmin gps street map for 2007 --a bit delayed as i was waiting for the data from city planners then corrected by the survey crew. i've also been confirming the data while working with DPW, plus adding new features to the map.

this map includes potty locations (checked 'em all except the ones not placed yet!), extended gate road (from highway 34), and other new features from prior years.
