LEO's are everywhere on the playa. Burn this video into your brain and you just might not spend your entire burn in the Pershing County Pokey:

I am the people your parents warned you about.

I watched that a while ago but boiled it down to three essentials:

A cop can pat you down for concealed weapons, can react to anything that they see, and you have to answer certain questions in certain states (i.e. your name). For instance, if you have a bag, they can search it if they see something illegal, but otherwise they are not allowed to.

If a cop asks you if it's okay to search your car/bag/etc., respond by saying, "I don't consent to searches of my private property." The wording in this is important: not "You can't search ..." but that you don't give consent. They are trying to be lazy and get you to give up your 4th Amendment rights (search and seizure) -- usually they can just ask and people roll over and let them search. Note that if they order you to step aside to search, let them. They might be a bad cop and they have a gun. You can contest it later.

If a cop asks you a question, respond by saying, "Am I being charged with a crime or am I free to go?" This protects your 5th Amendment rights (not incriminating yourself). How easy is it for a cop to simply ask, "do you know how fast you were going", and the person just responds, "just a little over the speed limit." Bam. They just volunteered to be charged with a crime.
May your deeds return to you tenfold,
