Damn... Had to comment.

"Is this a joke?? The description of burning man in this article is so far from fact as to be a total farce. Only someone who has has either,
A: No idea and has never been, or
B: A bone to pick with the event
would write such a one sided, slanted and false article. This isn't news, this is trolling pure and simple.

Go and cry into your blog and leave the newspapers to report REAL and FACTUAL news."

Doh... I did it again...

"Re: The only thing "burning" at Burning Man...

by Anonymous on...

The only thing "burning" at Burning Man is the pounds...probably tons....of marijuana and God knows what else they smoke out there. Just another liberal celebration of the "no responsibility" lifestyle that defines the clueless.

You appear to have no clue as to the event nor the people that go to it. Painting the entire population with one brush only shows your complete lack of understanding.

Lets run this down shall we?

A: Not a "hippie" or "liberal". Rather center or the road myself, thank you.

B: Never smoked nor done any illegal drug in my life. EVER.

C: No responsibility: This may be the funniest part. It's all about responsibility. If you don't do somthing for yourself, it doesn't happen. Don't take responsibility for yourself? You get taken out on a stretcher.

Why do I go? I like to build things. Grandpa worked for the Army Corps of Engineers and taught me many things. So I go to an event where I get to go camping (was a boy scout) and get to build cool things. If I want to build a solar powered "tall ship", I can. If I want to build a geodesic dome, I can.

Clueless? You only one here that is clueless here is you. Do some research next time before spouting off half-baked ideas on a public forum and making yourself look foolish."

Besides firing off comments about the article, IMHO the publisher needs to get an earful for allowing that to run. Anyone in agreement can contact John DiMambro at 775-881-1269 or via email at [email protected] and let the man at the top know just how you feel.

hmmmmmm -- Very interesting. Its obvious the writer of that article has never been there. I fear its one of htose articles you write when faced with a deadline to fill inches, and have nothing else ready to submit.

Naked in front of kids? I see it all over europe, and the beaches all over. So what? Its the parents responsibility to raise their children. Regardless, I find it just recycled information from Eplaya, Tribe, and the 2.0 article. I could probably recreate the entire article by just cut and pasting from other work, as a lot of his phrases are directly from other articles.

later all..

Ahem.
Semi-retired journalist
I can't imagine why.

Why complain to a rag that clearly doesn't have a competent editor to begin with?
That article is hackneyed in so many ways I wouldn't know where to begin.

Thankfully there are no drugs or corruption in other nevada cities any longer.
No journalists in that town, so it's a good thing.

I notice there is no gambling for cash at burning man.
I guess burning man can't compete with the high rate of gambling addiction of minors in nevada either.

Is that an actual paper?
Looks like a dressy blog.
Nothing more.

I've sent a letter to the editor as well. Much more polished that my comments to the article. ;)

Although the article is not 100% true it is not 100% false either … there are naked people running around in plan view of minors, there are drugs (even if not promoted by event they are still there), they are breaking there own rules this year about commerce.

Again a little one side but not totally false … I think the whole reason ya’ll are getting so upset is that you don’t like someone not liking your event … it is not everyone’s cup of tea and you should expect some people not to get it … if everyone like the same things this world would be BORING!!

And the relationship between a nuclear storage site and a naked drug festival is.............?

It reads like that radical right wing propaganda that's always being cranked out, though I can't figure out where he's going with that stuff about a storage facility destroying the flower of civilization, nevada.

If he doesn't like the festival, he could at least put a little effort into it.

High school papers have better talent.
I still think it's somebody's blog.

Well since I started this thread I'll put my 2 cents in. I could care less what people think of my life style, choices I've made or whatever, especially when it doesnt affect them one iota. What I hate, and see in the article and the comments in the paper is the anger and animosity shown towards people who are basically doing their own thing and trying to make the world a better place....even if its just being more friendly to your fellowman (person). It unfortunately is a microcosm of the country as a whole. I love civil discourse. I can learn things and be more aware of where theyre coming from. What I despise and hear on talk radio, articles and comments like this and other forms is uncivil discourse where im being kind to call it uncivil. Its a sad state of the human condition and when im out on the playa in a cpl of weeks ill be far removed.

To answer your question … they are two separate articles not divided very well … and in desperate need of a head line but two different articles none the less.
them to spend lots of money in Nevada. Thanks in advance. (the end of the BM article)

(the beginning of the nuclear article) I have often wondered why the federal government continues
Hope that helps.
