Laughing Squid has a video of the Seemen's Helco performance on Saturday night. (Back in the old days, children, the Man burned on Sunday night.)

This was Louise's and my first year. I will tell you that the video is edited and makes the event look much more exciting than I remember. It was a long, dragged out affair, as I recall it, and without the exciting background music.

I could not agree more! It was my first time there and to behold such an amazing spectacle is why I have come back each year and freely donate my time to the event.

Dogs, motorcycles driving willy-nilly, spontanteous conflagrations and things that go BOOM in the night.

And that zipline off a burning skyscraper was fucking classic.

Seems to me like it would really suck that 11 years later, I still hadn't been able to improve upon the experience. Why do you guys continue to invest the time, energy, and expense into something that's just not as good (as you seem to be saying)?

Because the optimist in me whispers to hold on to the possibility that something just as great and as magnificently fucking nutz just might happen again the next time around.

Hell, it sure beats waiting around in front of a TV waiting for re-run episode of Friends.

Wow, that floods the data banks... I helped build that tower, the center camp shade structure, and a few others. My First year and a great experience of getting involved.
