Carpet edges and escaping fibers
Carpet edges and escaping fibers
What is a cheap way to treat the edges of scrap pieces of carpeting to stop the fibers from escaping and becoming a big MOOP problem? We have over 2000 square feet of carpeting for our camp so whatever solution we use needs to be cheap and not too time consuming.
We already tried duct tape and it doesn't work.
Could we paint the edge with glue?
What are your experiences with treating the edges of carpeting?

Torch did not quite work
We tried the torch technique yesterday and it helped some but it was still pretty easy to knock fibers off the edge of the carpet.

There is a big difference between qualities of duct tape. Also the type of material you stick it to will vary. Some carpet will stick better than others, some will melt better than others. Also the length of time the tape can sit on the carpet before being abused will make a difference. We all know that after some tape has been on something too long it can be a bitch to remove.

Give duct tape a chance..
Try this on a sample piece.. Get extra wide duct tape.. Is about 5 to 6 inches wide. Tape the bottom about 2 inches in.. Then overlap. Get 5 or so peeple to walk th line.. Gently smashing the tape to the fibers. If its thick carpet may need more smashing. Use cheap wal-mart space rugs for heavy traffic areas onto the carpet. Mabey iron th duct tape through a towel? Still thinking.. "once duct tape fails to work..our society is in peril"
anything worth doing is worth overdoing..
i'm blue-skying here...
This is a total guess, i've never had duct tape not work, but...
Elmer's (or similar) school glue, brushed on lavishly with a 1" paintbrush?
