The Hydrogen Economy - Exploding Hydrogen Bubbles

Post by brettlevine » Thu Aug 09, 2007 3:44 pm

This year The Hydrogen Economy exploding bubbles art experiment returns to the playa recast in prehistoric times. Take hold of fire-breathing dragons and explode a new never-ending stream of highly flammable bubbles. Or just chill on lush lily pads and enjoy the swampy lava pit and exploding ambiance.

The option is yours to Participate or Spectate (yes, you may spectate):
EVERY NIGHT AT MIDNIGHT.
False Profit camp: 4:30 and Esplanade.

We are in need of lighting and sound experts to twist the deco dial to transcendant levels.

Update

The Hydrogen Economy will now be presenting a new kind of bubble for your explosion needs. We now have rigged up a gas mixing system that can create a Hydrogen / Propane / Oxygen bubble in any proportions we set our flow meters to. It's pretty interesting, since propane is about 1.5 times heavier than air, and Hydrogen is about 95% lighter than air. When the bubble is ignited, the gases actually separate and you can see the bright white propane flames and the deep red hydrogen flame.

And when we add the oxygen : BANG!

It's going to rock. See you out there.

Brilliant! I can hard wait to see it! I used to play with such exploding bubbles as a child. It was always fun to catch a few of the propane ones on fire with a friend watching, sneak in some oxygen and make a new batch of bubbles, hand over the wand to my friend, and then laugh my ass off as the loud explosion scares the poor guy half to death. It worked every time.
