A New Burner

Post by andreabroussard » Tue Aug 14, 2007 12:32 am

So I was just writing you all a lovely and informative introduction and the computer did something strange and I lost it. I'll give you the quick and dirty here.

Well first, let it be said that I'm so glad this forum exists and I'm glad to have found it. Thank you for participating in the human community.

Now, onto business. This is my first year to go to BM independently. I went in '04 and '05 as the girlfriend of a deeply involved and integrated burner. Everything was taken care of for me, and I had posh living arrangements. At the expense of experiencing Burning Man to the fullest and establishing my own unique presence there, I remained emotionally and energetically bound to the challenging dynamics in that relationship.

This year, I go independently. I am so grateful and excited for the adventure and also a little nervous. I am not registered with any particular camp, and so I am worried about logistics such as shade structure, gray water, and the other general amenities that come with camping with an established group. I do have food covered. Do any of you have any suggestions about the camping aspect? Is it totally naive to just show up and expect to find a group to hook in with then?

Just so you know, my interests lie more in dance, energy medicine, yoga, meditation, and authentic connection than in S&M, inebriation, and deafening sound systems. That may help to guide you in guiding me to an appropriate camp.

Please help if you can. I so much appreciate that you're out there.

Love.

Yes.

Best to be self sufficient first.

Then if you find a camp, great. If not, great.

Lots of threads here to give you some ideas to cover the basics.

skygod has it right. Be prepared to be totally independent. There are tons of threads on dealing with shade, gray water, and everything else, so dive deeply.

Totally. What's more than totally?

Nobody's going to guide you to an appropriate camp, I'm sorry to say. Be totally independent and prepared to set up your own independent camp in which you are self-relliant. Do not rely on others to do all the dirty work for you, as appears to have been the case in your previous visits to the event.

I don't mean my comments harshly, but as a reality check. Instead of having everything taken care of for you, be prepared not only to take care of all your own needs but to help others take care of their needs, too.

This will be your first Burn.

Perhaps we did. If you want to join an established camp, look for regionals on the Burning Man Website and find established camps from the Austin area.

Chill everyone! She's a newbie looking for some info on joining an established theme camp. That's all. Geeze,

Andrea, try the link below, get on the Austin List, send out an e-mail asking if any theme camp is looking to round out their ranks.
If that doesn't work, search here for Stag Camp...a camp for folks without a camp. Aint Burning Man great?

Best of Luck to ya! And do stop by Mile High Club one evening!
