Porty potty People

Post by sisterzer0 » Fri Aug 17, 2007 1:15 pm

i had a question about the Porter Potty People, thought maybe someone could answer it. You know how the Porter Potty people will empty out the gray water in an RV for a fee, do they also refill it with clean water too for a fee?

THANKS.

All Hail the BURN.

Yes, they will generally refill your potable water when they empty the holding tanks.

Warning: Do not count on this for your drinking water! The guys are often stretched pretty thin and may not get to you when you expect them.

Actually, NO THEY WILL NOT refill any fresh water. There is no water service.

Only pumping of the tanks, gray and black, are available.

You must bring in ALL of your own water.

Not true. You can buy water for $2/gallon (in the form of ice), so there's no need to bring water if you don't want to.

That's some pretty rotten advice, Hosh, considering that if everybody followed it we'd all be screwed. Maybe you're just trying to be funny so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Don't fuck around with water. It's going to be HOT AS BALLS out there. 2 gallons/person/day.
Irony. You're soaking in it.

It's also worth noting that ice will be $3 a bag this year.

And yeah, plenty of water. 2 gallons per person per day should cover your drinking, cooking, and bathing needs.

According to the RV info page on the Burning Man site, they don't have any official sign-up location. They recommend just flagging one of the trucks down.
The trucks that service RVs make their rounds between 9am and 9pm, and they have an amber flashing light on the top and a big "RV ONLY" sign on the side. The trucks patrol their "zones" in the city all day, and you can flag them down for service as they roam their quadrants, or stop them while they're in the broader neighborhood and request a local visit. In case of dire emergency/missed opportunity, you can also pedal out to Fire & Services, where you will find a Help Desk and make an appointment (out past the outer road and 6:30).
Do take the time to click the link and read the RV page before you head to the playa, though.
