My Brother Matt, Who is the reason I went this year.
I lost him on my 30th birthday, Feb 26, 2007. He was only 35.
This is his blog that his friends set up. I would love to share a little bit of my brother with you here. He was a huge BM supporter, helping David Best build the temple on a few different occasions.

Author Madeleine L'Engle, whose novel "A Wrinkle in Time" has been enjoyed by generations of schoolchildren and adults since the 1960s, has died, her publicist said Friday. She was 88.
Amazingly, I only read L'Engle for the first time in the past decade. My ex introduced me to the books...and then, at a time when I most needed to learn how to Be, he Named me. The Naming at the end of A Wind in the Door was his contribution to my graduation from therapy, at my request. I needed that concept so desperately in my life, and I will ever be grateful, both to my ex for sharing it with me, and L'Engle for sharing it with the world.

God, who's next?
I loved her.
I'm sure the book-burners will dance on her grave...
And I'm just as sure the book-protectors will fight even more fiercely to keep her books in the public eye.
I'm going to read A Wrinkle in Time with Pavarotti playing in the background.

what makes you remember?
A few nights ago my wife and I were waiting in the drizzly dark to cross 16th Street at T. An airline pilot was coming up 16th, pulling a wheelie-bag, the gold stripes on his sleeves reflecting the street lights. Memory.
A week after September 11, 2001, Mr Blanco comes into the store, wild eyed, upset as we all were. "I saw him, it was him - that morning, that young guy. I was out for my run he was waiting for a cab to the airport on the corner of 16th. He smiled and wished me a nice day! He always smiled" Him - David - we just met him in mid-August, when the store first opened, coming in with his dog Chance, smiling, enchanted by it all, promising to be back soon. He was a man who made our neighborhood the place that it is, a man who loved nothing better than to fly.

Tawn Mastrey, Classic Rock Deejay
Liver Failure due to Hep C

I used to listen to Tawn when I was a teenager. I always called in and requested stuff and she never snubbed me like the other deejays often did. I never felt uneasy asking for this song or that artist. In fact, she greeted me enthusiastically, every time. She was every inch a lady and we've lost a bright soul. Tawn was one of the last good ones, from a radio era where there was a soul on the other end of the airwaves.
The world is further impoverished for her passing.
From her Myspace page, posted by her sister Cara:

Subject: ROCK DJ RADIO ICON, TAWN MASTREY DIED of liver failure due..
Body: Tawn Mastrey died of liver failure due to Hepatitis C October 2, 2007, at the Organ Transplant Center, University of Minnesota while waiting for a liver from a deceived donor to come to her. A liver never came for her and she died after suffering for months of physical and emotional pain. Tawn fought hard to stay alive for her family, friends and all who loved her, but we, her family are so relieved that Tawn is now finally at peace.
Thank you to the many people who donated and expressed their concern.

Tawn Mastrey was a Passionate, Loving, Generous, Exciting, Fun, Funny, Sweet, Kind, Strong, Sexy, Talented, Child like, Beautiful Woman. Not only was she one of my 4 sisters whom I love them all, but Tawn was my best friend. When I was down, she would pick me up. When she was down, I was there for her too. We spoke on the phone everyday for my entire life.
It's never a dull moment when Tawn enters a room, she shines. And by the time she leaves the room, everyone knows her name and loves her, and fell in love with her. Men, Women, children and animals all love Tawn.
Tawn taught me how to speak when I was a small child, Tawn was my voice. She knew what I wanted and needed. When Tawn became ill, she lost her voice. I volunteered to be her voice to communicate with her Doctors, friends, and fans as to go about saving her life because I knew what Tawn wanted or needed because we were so close.
In order for me to help her I needed her contacts and fans in order to plea the fact that she was dying and needed a liver.
She allowed me to delve into her big black book to pick out the biggest names in the business throughout her 30 plus years as a Radio Disc Jockey in the music business, and I contacted them to plan benefit concerts to help save Tawn's life. Some were old friend or band mates of mine from the 80's when i was tromping the grounds myself as a singer. Everyone of those beautiful friends of hers and mine, came together as a 'Rock Community' to make a serious effort in saving Tawn.
I will eventually be writing a book on the subject of what a horrendous experience it has been on the medical side because of lack of organ donors, and what a nightmare it has been for Tawn.
For now, I want to focus on the positive aspect of Tawn's life and the contribution and huge impact she has made with so many lives that she has touched. Tawn's radio voice was sexy, warm, melodious, and sensual. Older boys and men, would fantasizes about her while listening to her voice, and then to listen to the hard pounding driving music in between. Girls and Women, were inspired to be like her, and many became disc jockeys because of her. Tawn was a rock chick, but she had class like Mae West, and she knew how to tantalize her audience wanting to hear more of her.
Tawn had a soft tender heart, and has literally helped thousands of people in various ways, of getting them jobs, getting the to the top of their chosen stardom, baby sat friends children, caring for animals. She did not feel complete if she wasn't helping someone at any given moment.
She inspired musicians and had a very good ear as to what she liked, other people also liked. Bands such as Metallica, Alice Cooper, Megadeath, Guns & Roses, Ronnie Montrose and Sammy Hagar, Scorpions, ACDC, ...the list goes on into literally the 100's, not to forget the early 70's when she began broadcasting and choosing music to play on the turn table, Journey, Starship, The Police, even Devo and The Knack were some of the bands she was a part of promoting through repetition of air play and interviews.
As a family member of 5 girls, Tawn was like the take charge dad of the family, or the oldest brother. She was the Auntie Mame to our children, and to even many major rock stars. We all listened to Tawn because her help was angelic. Tawn was nick named by one of our brother in laws 'The Military Sergent of Fun'. Because if we weren't having fun, while in Tawn's presence, she would make damn sure that we were going to succeed in having Fun. We laugh a lot as a family and are extremely close knit and supportive of eachother. No one messes with the Mastrey Women.
Even though Tawn and I love each other very much, we bumped heads from time to time. I was some what of an obstinate teen and wanted to branch out from Tawn to regain my freedom and independence to do what I wanted to do. Tawn always felt she knew what was best for me. On one night we made history from getting into a physical brawl she and I, had in the late 70's and were kicked out of the toughest punk club in the bay area along with our 2 other sisters. That was the craziest thing we ever did. We all laughed about it for years after, because the love we had for eachother was incomprehensible and completely passionate with admiration and respect as sisters.
When Tawn's terrible painful struggle to survive, the roles reversed, and I was having to care for my sweet, but helpless sister who was laying in bed dying for months. I was there by her side most everyday, while also forming the concerts all over the world, plus caring for my daughter and trying to be there for my mother as well. This year has been a nightmare. The good that has came out of it was the fact that I've reunited with dear friends and also met some life long friends through the mutual suffering but love for Tawn that we've shared together. Most importantly, Tawn has become the misfortunate 'catalyst' (so to speak), that will generate a lot of change for good of things to come in the future.
Tawn's liver never did arrive, her kidneys and heart were next to go, and it happened only in a few days once the liver had completely gone due to Hepatitis C. I am, as well as so many others are still in shock, and can barely get myself out of bed, but, I feel Tawn is telling me from where ever she is now, to "get out of bed and go have some fun with your daughter!." So I will try each day to do a little more and have some fun. It won't be the same without her though.
Tawn wasn't happy unless she was caring for others and helping people with their lives. She had lost her spark when she needed everyone to care for her. She became very humble, quiet, sad, weak, and lonely throughout her illness. We did the best we could in doing 'happy' things with and for her. She loved going out to lunch, or getting a massage, which were simple things. But eventually she became too ill to leave her bed and her health declined rapidly from that point on.
It has been incredible to experience all the love that people have for Tawn all over the world. The world is mourning for my beautiful sister, and our dear friend. She is very much missed and loved.
I will also be changing her myspace and website, adding some amazing pieces of work she has done with her voice, and also new pictures we found in hidden boxes to show you how we, her family and I remember Tawn.

In an uncontrollable fit of gallows humor, probably due to some deep seated subconscious coping mechanism, this jumped off the page at me...
I hope there's a equally well placed typo in my obituary.
At least I think it was a typo.
And Ms. Moneypenny has left the building as well:
