Realistic to buy grocery store water in Reno?

Post by PleasurePoet » Sat Aug 18, 2007 9:17 pm

We'd prefer not to carry the weight for our whole drive. Is it realistic to wait until Reno to buy 100 gallons of water at a grocery store or stores? Or do we just have to accept the gas mileage hit of lugging it the whole way?

Almost all of the grocery stores in the area will be stocking extra supplies for the playa-bound. Raleys at N McCarran & Pyramid has an entire aisle set aside with water, charcoal, a few cheap grills, etc.

But, just remember that there are 40,000 other people headed there that may have the same plan as you do, so while stores are stocking up, supplies tend to dwindle rather rapidly, especially water.

Your best bet will always be having a rock solid plan for securing whatever supplies are not in your vehicle when you leave for the playa. Yes, you will probably be able to find what you need somewhere in Reno, but it might take trips to several different stores, which can be frustrating, and only cuts into your time on the playa!
