battling the wind this year

Post by glitch000 » Wed Aug 22, 2007 7:37 am

Hi,

I've heard that the winds in the desert are ridiculous this year. My friends want to camp at the outer ring on the 3 o' clock side. I was told that may be a really bad idea.

My friends don't want to give up the mountains and open playa space so camping at the 10 or 3 o' clock side is pretty important. Can anybody please offer any suggestions as to where a good outer ring placement would be?

I have no idea. I heard the wind in 2004 was wild and that this year may be crazier. Do you think it's a bad idea to camp in the very outer ring altogether?

Thanks

I have grown fond of 2:30 at the outer ring my last 3 years, and I will try and camp there again this year. I like wind, and will deal with it. A good respirator, goggles and good tie-down system make everything safe.

The winds CAN be bad, or they can be pleasant. Five days ago it was like getting sandblasted out here, and today it is as calm and still and hot and clear as can be.

Prepare for everything!

The wind does not discriminate. It blows everywhere both inner streets as well as outer rings.

Except where I'm camped of course, I ordered calm warm days and clear stary nights, just go to weather (dot) com, and place your order before it's too late!

I will hazard the opinion that the 3:00 side will be better than 9:00 because all the dust raised by people driving from blacktop tends to blow straight across the playa, thus going through the 9:00 side more than 3:00.

shrug - rolls your dice, takes your chance.

I'm leaving the swarovski 3 tier crystal chandelier at home this year.

What, you think I'm kidding? Ask RG.
