playa hangover cure?
we have all been there. many times. many many many times. what do you do when you wake up with a throbbing headache, dry mouth and you are missing your pants? nevermind. i wasn't wearing any pants to start with.
those hangover pills kinda work
cold water works
food works if you can hold it down
is there anything else?
how about a beer with tomato juice and a raw egg? i think i have watched cocktail one too many times...

I think on the playa your best bet is to try to keep from having a hangover in the 1st place. And no, I'm not saying don't drink, cause I've definetly over done it out there... but I try to drink as much water as I can while I'm drinking, then before I go to bed I take a couple of Advil or Alieve and it's seemed to keep from ending up miserable the next day.

Here is a great article on cures.

For me, I have found if you take a vitamin C tablet or have something with citrus in it prior to drinking I normally do not get a hangover at all.

However, preparations containing acetaminophen (paracetamol/Tylenol) should be avoided if possible when alcohol is in the system because of the risk of potentially fatal liver damage.
Water, sugar, B12: Red Bull!Hypoglycemia, dehydration, Acetaldehyde intoxication, and vitamin B12 deficiency are all theorized causes of hangover symptoms.

That's an easy one
Hangovers are from dehydration. So drink a glass of water for every glass of booze - while you're drinking. Or while you're doing something other than booze - you get the idea. It's not nearly as useful to do it the next day. If you wake up miserable drink water that has electrolytes in it, such as gatorade - straight water won't be as helpful now that you've gone and messed up hydration balances, and take a B vitamin pill. For food eat BRAT - banana/rice/toast/apples.
Pomegranates are the most perfect food.

One time at BM, I got trashed with my buddy on burn night. we drank everything we had and were gifted tons and tons of everything. In the pictures I cant believe what we are drinking, anyways the sun was coming up and we were falling down drunk and walked back to our camp. Went to sleep at 0900 when some great burners helped us home and left us a note thanking us for the laughs. At 11:15 I sat upright in my tent, no hangover, not tired at all!! my buddy did the same 10 seconds later. We tried hard to piece together the perfect combination of alcohol and couldn't do it.

THE best thing before, during, and after hangover?:
~~~coconut water~~~
No shit, it is better at hydrating than gatorade. Has even been used intravenously by medicine to combat dehydration.
Buy it canned or in a carton at the grocery store.
Drink one before sleep and for breakfast.
Hell, mix your rum in it to start with.
I don't like Claussen, but I use "Bubbies" pickle juice the same way. All it contains is water, brine & spices. Yum. Pickles are good too. And good saurkraut (the kind made with brine, not vinegar!)thirt33n wrote:Claussen pickle juice.
no shit. every time.
as much as you can.
I happen to LOVE pickle juice so I'm lucky.
My personal hangover cure- lots of water while drinking, tylenol pm before bed, and coffee with a Trader Joe's burrito for breakfast.
So, from what I'm gathering, this "hangover" you're talking about is something that could result from a theoretical situation on the playa in which someone stops drinking adequate amounts of booze? Has anyone ever actually done this? Or is this strictly a hypothetical discussion?
Hangover: The split second between awake and hair of the dog..
Used this method for 12 years.. The booze was used to dilute the other drugs..
Problem with that: Lions in the booze tryed to throw me into a sea of druggie rats.. god I hate rats to this day.. Add snakes and spiders to the list..
From age 12 to 24.. Have not had a drink or fix in 45 years..
Thank you fellowship of the 12 steps..jonB 6/22/62
The active ingrediant in those drugs is paracetemol, or acetaminophen as its called in the US, right? taking this before bed after a load of drink is REALLY REALLY bad for your liver, as the alcohol has damaged it as is, and taking paracetamol on top of it is doubly damaging!
oh well, at least youve no hangover! livers are overrated anyway! :?
Milk and cookies before bed. Seriously. There's a lot of scientific reasoning behind it, but basically you need carbs, sugar, and b and d vitamins to prevent a hangover. I NEVER get hangovers (except back when I used to do lots of e, but that's another story), and I think it's because anytime I drink I crave carbs and sweets, and I always have something around to satiate that craving. I also drink tons of water, whether or not I'm drinking, and I'm sure that helps too.
If you're hungover off of slightly less legal substances you need to eat yogurt. I usually bring those Gogurt tubes out in my ice-chest because they're super easy to eat and I just never know when something not quite legal might sound like a really good idea in BRC.
Just remembered, day after memorial day I was hung-over with nausea, first tried heineken cause the myth is drink more in the morning & it will go away... not true for me, I felt awful till I got & ate a whole grapefruit (always helps me w/nausea) & advil or motrin liquid gels. Soon enough I was fine & I was actually pretty surprised since usually nothing works.
before i get started let me just announce that i am 100% irish
ok you may sit down
now, the secret to curing a hangover is not drinking a water between every beer - in the desert this is merely a waste of water and a waste of cold beer. what you need to do to take the edge off a hangover, besides drinking more cold beer when you wake up is to get a proper feed in and drink 2 or 3 pints of water, perhaps leaving the beer to the side for the first few hours of day may be a good idea too.
