I am camping by myself for my first Burning Man. I was wondering if a shade structure is desirable/necessary or a nuisance/wasteofspace for single person camps.
I have a canopy similar to this one:

Should I bring it?
P.S. I do have a tent to use for sleep/storage.

YES! You will need shade, otherwise your tent is an oven.
Bring it.
It's what I bring to solo camp, a 10x10 costco carport.
But you also have to bring four 3 foot rebar, I use 3/8 inch.
Drive them straight into the ground and leave a foot coming straight up that you will tape to the legs with duct tape. Bring a small sledge to do the pounding, and some visegrips to get em out of the ground when you leave. I wrap saran wrap around the legs to make it easier to get the duct tape off later.
A pair of gloves, something to sit on and a beer make the pounding easier!
I am trembling with anticipation of hearing that first strike of the sledge onto rebar!
The costco carports come with sides, and you will need one when the sun rises. The carport roof won't keep the early sun off your tent.

I concur with Skygod, only I think he meant "EZ UP" instead of "Costco carport."
Costco Carports are 10x20, have lots of parts and might be too much for just a solo camper.
Conversely, EZ-UP shades (as the OP linked to) are typically 10x10 and EZ to put UP.
The rebar/saran wrap/duct tape is the way I've been doing it for a couple years now. No guy lines, no exposed rebar.

Do Not leave home without some type of shade for your tent. Otherwise you will be looking to sleep in someone else's tent that has shade. Now, there's nothing wrong with sleeping in someone else's tent for the right reason, but lack of shade on your own tent is not one of the reasons.
