Well, nice to see a cameo by Sasch.
When you consider how dead this board is it's hard to believe that only 15,000 out of 40,000 are on-playa.

(He took it like a Man.)
I'm on the corner of 7:00 & Kelp Forest.
The new Man will be standing by the end of the week.

I was more or less speechless until I saw the mug shot of the guy who was arrested.

Pug-ugly little "hee-hee-hee, I burnt the Man, what're you gonna do about it?" smirk. I'll probably bitch-slap him if I ever meet him.

Edit: You know what? Scratch that. He's got a felony arson charge hanging over his head. A million dollar fine is more bitch-slap than any of us could personally deliver.

35 and you're pulling this kind of stunt. wow.

Did you stick his picture as your avvy so people can get a good look at him?

Damn. Imagine your name with a big red star next to it on 10,000+ shit-lists.

One of the news articles said that he had some accomplices. How much do you want to bet they've been planning this little stunt all year? I can let the Man burning early go, they're fixing it, it's that arrogant smirk that's pissing me off.

I read that too. I'm not surprised. He's still a pissant little creep.

Remember back in the '80s, there was a humongous fire around Sacramento? Boatloads of houses and acreage burnt, a few people dead, cause was arson, and the guy that did it was some homeless guy who confessed and said he did it so he could be on the fucking news. This is like that. I'm sure Paul Addis is going to wear it like a red badge of courage forever.

Hope someone makes him swallow those pearly whites in jail.

yeah - i used the mugshot for a joke on another thread... then instantly regretted giving him any more exposure.

i'm looking forward to getting there and seeing how the community has come together to fix the man up for saturday.

Nah, the mugshot's okay. I d'led it and I'm gonna use it for archery practice.

[evil laugh] You know what? Someone should throw his picture in the Man's fire on Saturday night and roast marshmallows with it.

And before anyone starts mumbling about Eclipse being destructive energy...this one was in Pisces, which is a creative sign. I felt very peaceful and meditative while I watched it last night, and a little lonely...considering what wound up happening, it's probably better that I stayed home.

Contemplating giving the Desert Event a semi-permanent miss and just going to the regional Burns, Fourth of Ju-Playa and the SF Decomp. It's cynical chaos like this that's turning me off to it, one of the main reasons I keep going is because of my friends. The Burn is often the only time of year I get to see a lot of them.

i hear ya. i wasn't going to go this year at all... needed a break from the assholeness. mine included. then a good friend of mine passed away last May - big burner chick who always talked me into going when i didn't want to and was my primo partner-in-crime on the playa. we all decided we had to go to honor her at the temple. bitch got me to go again...

speaking of letting go of assholeness, i don't know if i ever really apologized to you for that whole mess when we first 'met' on here. i was a jerk and was having too much fun being a jerk. i have felt badly about it ever since. i think you are a rockstar and have always admired your presence here. i am truly sorry for the jokes i made at your friend's expense.

funny thing is, this friend of mine is one who really pushed the boundaries of onplaya assholeness. i am having trouble rectifying how to go and honor her spirit there while at the same time feeling like i need to make amends for the shit i've pulled out there...

Apology accepted Image

You were on my "Ignore" list for awhile — there's a bunch of people in there, actually, keeps my E-playa experience pleasant and smoothe — but I went through and released the ones that hadn't really hurt me. Thanks for being cool.

They're guardian angels. They'll be hovering around the Temple, watching over it and the people who go there.

Actually...don't ask their name. If you see a Guardian Angel at the Temple, tell them Wolfie sends a hug, whoever they are Image

I didn't even know this happened until I got stuck in Winnemucca and ended up staying overnight at a motel there. I turned on the news and KTVU 2 showed the man's face. He looked like he was smiling about it.

If there's one good thing to come from this it will give participants a new found appreciation for the hard work and miracles DPW pulls off each year since they'll see the man get rebuilt in 2 days or less....

Thank DOG for the DPW!

Thanks for the offer, but I got a printer. Save 'em for yourself.

I'm thinking about having an orphans' Burn on Saturday night and plastering his face on the mini-Man-to-be-burnt.

May he be Burned by his actions.

 Well, geez! I stay away from the boards for a while, and someone sets the Man on fire early! I dunno how I feel about that. Haven't seen the guy's picture yet, but don't really care about who did it. The idea of someone doing so is kind of interesting, though. :?

!
of course he'smiling! He's a hero to the anti-green pavilon protestors.

Stuck in Winnemucca! Where are you at one of the Cat HOuses?

What happen how did you get stuck? wasn't driving the sulpher road and having your car tires all blown out? ONe year, I had two go on me! After one went, I headed back to town got that fixed, then drove into BRC on my spare after another tire blew! Now that road can Bitch slap you!

ON the Burning of the Man: the news article says the guy used some fireworks? Is anyone saying what was his motives: Protest or ego?

This may prompt the Bmorg into building back up men!

My feelings about the premature burning is: It's more about the other events, people and art! The man has become a distant figure- impersonal! but I wouldn't want to miss the burn even if it was premature! I might also have a different feeling if I was there as well. If anything it was a selfish act depriving others of their event.

Has anyone been able to link to the google earth? All I see is 2006

the sad truth.... at most, very little will likely happen to him (unless he has an extensive criminal history)... in reality, day or two in jail and maybe a fine (will maybe get more but have lots suspended).... it all depends on the prosecutor in Nv and what they want to battle in court...
I understand he bailed immediately...
many here might be willing to forgive and forget.. but me..
tie him to the stake and burn his ass !!! as well as any that helped him...
he better hope he never crosses paths with me....

The ORG are making sounds like they're gonna hang, draw and quarter him in the civil court.

If anything else, ostracism is a good and time-honoured social sanction and he just earned himself a permanent, standing uninvite to the Burn. His kisser is plastered all over the place and everyone will recognize him. Sure, some dillholes are placing him slightly to the right of Hercules but most of us want to see him swing in the sun, most notably DPW.

And we all know what it means to be on DPW's shit-list...

it's not up to the organizers or anyone else as to what will legally happen to him.. it is up to the local District Attorney.. and they always plea bargin to make their job easier...
the organizers can sue him in civil court though.. and a criminal conviction would go a long ways to making it a slam dunk in civil court....
sue him for damages..... what is the price/value to 40,000 of the Man..???

I've only been around BM for a couple of years now so I don't know a lot of the history, but, this wouldn't be the first ban would it? Are others blacklisted?

I seem to remember hearing about a case of some guy dressed like a clown, stealing bikes and starting fights or something, and he was later tracked down after posting on the Internet .... ?

In my two years of attending I've noticed they check I.D.'s coming through the gate, however I never noticed them checking a list. But maybe they have a small list of names memorised, of people who aren't invited to attend.

Perhaps someone within the Org, or someone who has worked the gate, might know.

Yes, that's what I was talking about Image

Not sure of the numbers as to how much it costs to build the Man, but they have to rent a warehouse...and maintain a flatbed truck...and pay DPW to build, transport and install it...now they have to build ANOTHER one, so we got a double-dip here (even though they probably have at least a thousand people coming to DPW Depot every day since, saying, "I wanna help!")...

Oh, dear. The poor suffering bastard's gonna be performing slave labour and eating slave rations for the rest of his life, methinks...

I thing they pretty much get a court ordered restriction against these people. So if they show up they go to jail, but who really knows. I never heard anything about these people after they get arrested.

I think somehow these people end up missing only to be burnt in the man at some time in future like a real weccan rite, but that only a rumor!

We need to understand that he may have not had any preconceptions about burning the man. Like many people that just get the urge to fry themselves when the man is burning: to be one with the man!

Drugs can be the issue as it is many times for most accidents.

Has anyone heard or read an update? Please post it if you do!

as long as we're talking about phuck up people, has the person(s) that stole the dragonflys and fish back in 2000? had ever been caught?

They along with the clown are the worst things that have ever happened to the event. This guy that burnt the man rates much lower in my book, but he still should make good on his damages plus do community work!
Lets hope that this doesn't inspire other idiots to do the same.

I think it will and that's why I'm not coming back.

The anarchic Burners have a point in that there are a lot of laws (well, rules, but to an anarchist it's the same difference), and now that a precedent has been set I think the ORG will feel they have to do something to keep it from happening again. Something that will, in all likelihood, suck.

It was bad when they fixed it so DPW raises the Man, instead of the lever and whoever happened to be around on Monday morning, and it sucked when we couldn't sit at the Man's feet on the pedestal anymore. This stunt probably means that the fifty-yard perimeter around the Man will be impermeable, and nobody but the ORG and DPW can go in the circle, next year. Watch.

One of our siblings messed up and the rest of us get to go sit in the corner.
