Music and Lyrics By David Bowie
From the Labyrinth Movie Soundtrack, 1986

You remind me of the babe
What babe? The babe with the power
What power? Power of voodoo
Who do? You do
Do what? Remind me of the babe

I saw my baby, crying hard as babe could cry
What could I do?
My baby's love had gone
And left my baby blue
Nobody knew:

CHORUS

What kind of magic spell to use?
Slime and snails
Or puppy dogs' tails
Thunder or lightning
Then baby said
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Put that baby spell on me
Jump magic, jump (jump magic, jump)
Jump magic, jump (jump magic, jump)
Put that magic jump on me
Slap that baby, make him free

I saw my baby, trying hard as babe could try
What could I do?
My baby's fun had gone
And left my baby blue
Nobody knew

CHORUS

Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance) (x4)
Jump magic, jump (jump magic, jump) (x2)

Put that baby spell on me (ooh)

You remind me of the babe
What babe? The babe with the power
What power? Power of voodoo
Who do? You do
Do what? Remind me of the babe

Dance magic, dance, ooh ooh ooh
Dance magic, dance magic, ooh ooh ooh
Dance magic

What kind of magic spell to use?
Slime and snails
Or puppy dogs' tails
Thunder or lightning
Something frightening

Dance magic, dance
Dance magic, dance
Put that baby spell on me
Jump magic, jump
Jump magic, jump
Put that magic jump on me
Slap that baby make him free
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Jump magic, jump (jump magic, jump)
Jump magic, jump
Put that magic jump on me
Slap that baby

Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Dance magic, dance
Slap that slap that baby make him free
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance) (repeat ad-lib)

the old Buddhist parable of 'The Blind Men and the Elephant'

Post by mayavin » Tue Aug 28, 2007 4:00 pm

The blind man feeling the animal's head declared,
"An elephant is like a water pot"

but those at the ears,
"He is like a winnowing basket"

those at his tusks,
"No, indeed, he is like a plowshare"

and those at his trunk,
"He is like a plow pole."

There were a number feeling his belly.
"Why," they cried, "he is like a storage bin!"

Those feeling his legs argued that he was like pillars

those at is rectum, that he was like a mortar

those at his member, that he was like a pestle

while the remainder, at his tail, were shouting
"An elephant is like a fan."

And they fought furiously among themselves with their fists,
shouting and crying,
"This is what an elephant is like; that is not what an elephant is like";
"This is what an elephant is like; that is not what an elephant is like"

"And precisely so," then runs the moral of the Buddha,
"the company of heretics, monks, Brahmans, and wandering ascetics,
patient of heresy, delighting in heresy, relying upon the reliance of heretical views,
are blind, without eyes: knowing not good, knowing not evil,
knowing not right, knowing not wrong,
they quarrel and brawl and wrangle and strike one another with the daggers of their tongues, saying, 'This is right, that is not right'; 'This is not right, that is right.'"

The Man Burns Prematurely
"...Briefly stated, it assumes that there is in the structure and functioning
of the psyche a certain degree of spontaneity and consequent uniformity
throughout the history and domain of the human specie--- an order
of psychological laws inhering in the structure of the body,
which has not radically altered since the period of the Aurignacian caves
and can be as readily identified in the jungles of Brazil as in the cafes of Paris,
as readily in the igloos of Baffin Land as in the harems of Marrakech.
But on the other hand, if climate, geography, and massive social forces
are to be regarded as of more moment in the shaping of the ideas,
ideals, fantasies, and emotions by which men live than the innate structures
and capacities of the psyche,
then a diametrically contrary philosophical position must be assumed.
Psychology in this case becomes a function of ethnology;
or, to quote one representative authority, A.R. Radcliffe-brown,
in his work on The Andaman Islanders:
A society depends for its existance on the presence
in the minds of its members of a certain system of sentiments
by which conduct of the individual is regulated in conformity with the needs of the society.
Every feature of the social system itself and every event or object
that in any way affects the well-being or the cohesion of the society
becomes an object of this system of sentiments.
In human society the sentiments in question are not inate but are developed
in the individual by the action of the society upon him.
The ceremonial customs of a society are a means by which
the sentiments in question are given collective expression
on appropriate occasions.

the notion that the culture creates antagonists

protagonists of a fractionary share of the whole view

it is not for his right to act thusly that i speak

but what of the ethos

and where should it by any more apparent than with the dealings of the core

should they defer to relatively prosaic course?

shall it be an outsourced matter of contention?

are you willing to play into the role of a bunch of grown up kids
off playing end-of-summer camp
telling the law of the land someone burned your sticks?

retroactive reformative punition...
a fine and some time...

ack... risk of life and limb
with a ticket and a week

feels like my head swims in circles
while the sun slowly lights the edges of the pool

where's the bottom?

what's truly radical?

and such a pretty totem

the nerve...

to stand and take the right to give it flame

antihero to some, hero to others

friction for heat and indian burn goodbyes

shall we soon receive subdivisions of the 'burner' name?

for the vedic, who's absent of their own action and consequence?

for the annointed, who's path is not aligned with their intended?

for the other, where and how you expend what energy you consume, conditionally or otherwise?

speak to a butterfly of swimming?

ask a rock for direction?

think yourself a maker when you recompose?

strut for those who daunt?

flacidly resign to absorbing shows?

looking for something unique to flaunt?

trust your convictions to what another knows?

playing, flaying, broken bribing

consequentially saying, echo-rendered coat-tail riding?

if so, why aren't smurfs as guilty of preconditioned sublimation\
as the ever ready grand theft matic?

French trophée,
from Old French trophee,
from Latin trophaeum, monument to victory,
variant of tropaeum,
from Greek tropaion,
from neuter of tropaios, of defeat,
from tropē, a turning, rout.

Image
Human trophies were sometimes used in ancient warfare.
After battles, some armies practised penis removal of defeated warriors
to wear these as trophies or in order to count the dead.
Usually though only the foreskins were taken.

Conspicuous consumption is a term used to describe the lavish spending
on goods and services that are acquired mainly for the purpose of displaying income or wealth.
In the mind of a conspicuous consumer,
such display serves as a means of attaining or maintaining social status.

Image
Invidious consumption, a necessary corollary,
is the term applied to consumption of goods and services
for the deliberate purpose of inspiring envy in others.

In Marxist theory, commodity fetishism is a state of social relations,
said to arise in complex capitalist market systems,
in which social relationships center around the values placed on commodities.
The term is introduced in the opening chapter of Karl Marx's main work
of political economy, Capital, of 1867 .

Image
Marx's use of the term fetish can be interpreted as an ironic comment on
the "rational", "scientific" mindset of industrial capitalist societies.
In Marx's day, the word was primarily used in the study of primitive religions;
Marx's "fetishism of commodities" might be seen as proposing
that just such primitive belief systems exist at the heart of modern society.
In most subsequent Marxist thought,
commodity fetishism is defined as an illusion arising from the central role
that private property plays in capitalism's social processes.
It is a central component of the dominant ideology in capitalist societies.
Image
False consciousness is the Marxist thesis that material and institutional processes
in capitalist society mislead the proletariat — and other classes —
about the real relations of forces between those classes
and of the actual states of affairs with respect to the development of various elements
of pre-socialist society relative to the secular development of human society in general.

While Sri Ramana said that Self-realisation could be brought about --- as it was for him ---
merely by giving up the idea that there is an individual self which functions through the body and the mind,
few could readily do so.
When asked for the most effective practice to facilitate Self-awareness,
he commonly recommended forms of self-enquiry,
along with recommending Satsang, (literally association with Sat or Being),
in the form of mental contact with a realized Guru,
or more properly the One Guru "within".

describing the mental process of re-directing one's focus of attention

As first expressed in Hubbert peak theory, Peak Oil is the point or timeframe
at which the maximum global petroleum production rate is reached.
After this timeframe, the rate of production will by definition enter terminal decline.

The only reliable way to identify the timing of peak oil will be in retrospect.

Petroleum politics have been an increasingly important aspect of international diplomacy
since the discovery of oil in the Middle East in the early 1900s.
As competition grows for an increasingly scarce but vital resource,
the strategic calculations of major and minor countries alike
place more prominent emphasis on the pumping, refining, transport
and use of petroleum products.

Image
Iraq holds the world's second-largest proven oil reserves,
with increasing exploration expected to enlarge them beyond 200 billion barrels
of "high-grade crude, extraordinarily cheap to produce."
Organizations such as the Global Policy Forum (GPF) have asserted
that Iraq's oil is "the central feature of the political landscape" there,
and that as a result of the 2003 invasion,"'friendly' companies
expect to gain most of the lucrative oil deals
that will be worth hundreds of billions of dollars in profits in the coming decades."
According to GPF, U.S. influence over the 2005 Constitution of Iraq
has made sure it "contains language that guarantees a major role for foreign companies."
Image
Saudi Arabia is an oil-based economy with strong government controls over major economic activities.
It possesses both the world's largest known oil reserves,
which are 25% of the world's proven reserves,
and produces the largest amount of the world's oil.

Nietzsche defines will similarly to the "any internally motivated action"
usage, but more narrowly. In this sense, will is more a "creative spark," a
certain independence and stubbornness. A person who chooses not to
steal because the Ten Commandments said so would not be exercising
their will; neither would someone buying some music because their
friends recommended it. Someone who independently forms their own
moral system or who composes a musical composition pleasing to
themself, however, would be exercising will.

ad hoc build it up tear it down culture...

ie.:
Boot Camp is a USA term for describing the training facility
for new army recruits when engaged in Basic Military Training (BMT).
The words "Boot Camp" are not used outside the USA.[citation needed]
The process has been described by Canadian military historian Gwynne
Dyer as a form of conditioning in which inductees are encouraged to
partially submerge their individuality for the good of their unit. Dyer
argues that this conditioning is essential for military function because
combat requires people to endure stress and perform actions which are
simply not present in normal life.

The nature and extent of this conditioning varies from one military service
to another. Some systems of training seek to totally break down the
individual and remold that person to the desired behaviour. Other
systems attempt to change the individual to suit the organization, whilst
retaining key elements of the recruit's personality. The differences
between the two approaches are often subtle.

The personalities are often very different in nature and may represent
extremes of what is contained in a normal person. Memories may be
asymmetrical with dominant identities remembering more than passive
identities.

A patient's progress can be divided in three groups. The first group tend
to have dissociative and post-traumatic symptoms, function well and
recover completely with specific treatment. The second group have
dissociative symptoms, usually mixed with symptoms from personality
disorders, mood disorders, eating disorders, or substance abuse
disorders. Improvement is slower, as treatment may be less successful,
longer, and more difficult. The third group have severe comorbid
psychopathology, and may be emotionally attached to their supposed
abusers. This group requires long-term treatment to manage the
symptoms rather than to achieve integration.
