planetarium laser thing a ma jig

Post by pbmaniac2000 » Wed Sep 05, 2007 12:37 pm

I am looking for details about one of my favorite art pieces out on the playa. It was straight out past the man and the temple at 12 o'clock. It was a giant inflatable pyramid with a spot light coming out of the top. When you got close there were stars and clouds on the outside. Then on the inside there were these giant spinning leds disks. They never appeared to do anything, but were cool. Then on the very inside there was this guitar/violin type thing you could play. It was extremely cool. I saw it wednesday night, but then it never reappeared on thursday. Does anyone have any details on it?

As far as I know, the piece is called "Inner Mind". I don't know any details, but my guess would be that it was taken down on thursday because of the dust storm (possible damage?).

See http://www.burningman.com/installations ... html#inner

Yeah thats it. It was a very awesome piece. I was thinking that it probably got destroyed in the wind storm.

Dust storm is exactly what happened. I was riding around looking for it one night, I think Thursday, remembering how dope it looked during the day and wanted to go chill in it at night. Well, I discovered a large round mass on the ground, and a man standing nearby. He was one of the artists on that project...super cool guy, I hope I cheered him up enough by reminding him of how rad his project was, and how mother nature couldn't take away from his power to bring amazing art to the playa, no matter how long it lasted. He told me about how a brass band used it as shelter from the dust storm that day, even though it had a giant rip in the side, yet they still continued to play their horns...I love the ambition of the people on the playa, and that no matter what is at hand, there's still fun to be had. It was a beautiful project, and I hope to see more from this group next year

We visited this installation on Wednesday night and it was very cool. The next day I ended up "trapped" by the whiteout at an art pavilion out beyond it near the trash fence (green spandex panels and lots of connecting building toys inside to play with - don't know the name of it). after an hour and a half or so, another guy that I met there (Tumbleweed) and I started walking back towards camp. Out of the sandy mist there appeared the big pyramid, with a huge tear completely down one side of the cone. The only thing holding it up at that point was the pressure of the wind keeping it filled up with air. It was rather sad. I never made it back out to see the ruins of it.
A plan is what you vary from.

Destiny Lounge 3D will be at Bradbury and 3:15 this year as a part of the 404: Village Not Found group of camps! Come see us!

it seemed to be a combination of laser starfield projectors very similar to:

lasersandlights.com

i dont own anything by them, i just so happened to use some of their wares for a benefit in july, and was pleasantly surprised to see those again(uv/laser similarity) in brc on a bigger scale.

thats my best guess, anyways.
