2007 BRC Map and Guide

Post by maisry » Thu Sep 06, 2007 9:20 am

Congratulations, Lisa Hoffman, on the design of this handout for BM2007. I am curious about how you chose the elements. I get the leafy parts for "green" and the gears for the technology of "man." How about the halftone of the Lady Palm with the Latin inscription of its botanical names (Rhapis flabelliformis Chamaerops excelsa)? :D

Is this an obtuse crack at the www guide including a name of the author?

I was totally baffled at the www guide and hence gave up and attended no scheduled events, but I do concede that the author may have been trying to pack in 4x more contents that the book appeared to try to hold.
darn sure better than any book I ever wrote

I was applauding the decorations on the fold-out "Map and Guide," not the 86-page "What Where When" booklet layout. The "What" and "When" were OK, but finding the "Where" involved too much crossreferencing and even absent addresses to do me any good.

Next time...

Let's make it more user friendly, please? It became a running joke that it was worse than the Beijing Phone Book for use-ability (and for use of paper... during the "green" man.)

There is a thing about keeping it simple. Remember, people out there are NOT likely to open a phone book to find one listing of which they don't even know the name. They used to be so easy...
