Wanted: Wheelchair to borrow for BM2007
Wanted: Wheelchair to borrow for BM2007
After trying out my foot on pedals I have found that my foot injury/nerve damage is not healed yet. I am looking to borrow a wheelchair for the week. I applied for a permit through DMV for a Golf Cart but may not be able to get approval since my injury is so recent and I do not have the required placard. Even if approved I may not be able to secure a Golf Cart for the playa.
Additionally if anyone knows of a way to rent a wheelchair in Reno/Sparks please forward the info to me via PM.
Thanks for your consideration.

So far nothing else has come up. I havent heard back from DMV yet and even if DMV OKs me the Golf Cart is a FOAF offer that may not come about. A push one would be more than enough for me to see the sights. How can I go about hooking up with ya to get it? I will be in Reno for a few days before the event and will be camping with MikeVDS et al in Gigsville. I looked into mobility rentals and they are just a little too steep for me since I am on reduced income. Not working and getting OT pay has seriously cramped my lifestyle. But all in all I can't complain too much, we still have a roof over our heads and food on our plates. I appreciate the offer and will PM ya with my number so we can get into details if need be sometime during July. We are moving to a house at the end of the month, no more stairs YAY! It will also give me more room in case I wind up in a chair longterm from this CRPS/RSD crap.AntiM wrote:I have a push one we bring sometimes, let me know if you find nothing else.

we're always in Hushville and arrive Monday dawnish. We drop off I-80 from Fernley, though, won't be near Reno. We're easy to find, the Home for Wayward Art is placed streetside, so if you want to hunt us up Monday morning, that's one option. Otherwise, we'll get it to you in Gigsville later that day.
The chair's been to the playa and to regionals, spray painted gold, needs more bumperstickers. Bring a cupholder and something to protect your ass from the vinyl seat. I use it if my back acts up too badly, but I can make do without it if I have larry and the rhoadescar at hand.
bike lock?
Even if you find an alternative, we'll haul it out. Makes a great camp chair, you don't have to get up to get your beer.

If you know someone who can weld, you could put together an electric trike.

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.

I do know a little about welding, albeit not as much as I would like to. If I ever get a doctor thats interested in fixing me I will get a small welder and practice but as of now I still need my hand held when setting up the MIG. I just don't have the exp yet. I am pretty decent at brazing though, I have been able to fix 3 radiators properly the first time!
Thanks to AntiM I don't have to stress out on my mobility situation anymore. And I think I will be able to scare up a decent bumber sticker and possibly a seat/seatback "upgrade/pad" to return the wheelchair with. I could use some dimensions of the seat area and the seat back so I know what size to make/get.

I think brazing is superior for that sort of thing.
Can you handle an electric bike?
That's as mobile as it gets out there.
A trike can be more comfortable and can carry more for longer range though.
Just an idea.

I made out pretty good for the first half of my time in BRC. My foot was in really good shape for the first coupla days. The last couple days were pretty bad, possibly due to trying to lift something a little too heavy. The nerve pain was downright unbearable for the last 24 hours but I made it out alive. I had an arrangement with someone who bailed as soon as they got fucked up on drugs but my campmates helped keep me sorted with ice. I managed to get use of a yellow bike a couple times so I did manage to meet some folks away from camp and see a coupla sights. I'm planning on posting most of my burn in Open Disc. so you can check out the entire story in that thread.
All in all I wouldn't have traded my experiences for all the pie in the world.

I think you get trooper of the year award Toolmaker. Having been abandoned by the R.V. which was also your ride home and place to stay after the event, being in pain from your foot and having mobility impairments and still having a great burn. Most people would have thrown in the towel after only a fraction of the crap you went through, yet you still made the best of things and just hopped on an art car and had a great burn. How did you end up spending your time before you plane left anyway? Last I hear Radiator was giving you a ride, but did you stay with her too?
Radiator and Celestine are great gals.. after packing out in the biggest dust storm of the 10 days on the playa we made it to Fernley and got a room to crash in. Tuesday I got a room in Reno and met some cool burners in the parkinglot to chill with. I soaked in the Jacuzzi for like 3 hours to rehydrate my skin since I was so dry I was about to burst into dust. My Thurday flight was OK.. had an empty seat next to me for both flights so I got to stretch out a little. Radiator continued on to Cali after dropping me off at the hotel in Reno my wife setup for me. She made it to her parents alright with no problems. I haven't heard anything since so I assume she made it the rest of the way home after a day with her family.MikeVDS wrote:How did you end up spending your time before you plane left anyway?
