Burning Man Functions-Get togethers locally - Vancouver, B.C

Post by naked_dan » Thu Jan 04, 2007 12:13 am

Hi everyone,

There have got to be some people here from Vancouver. I'd really like to connect with some Vancouver Burners. I am totally new to this - a BM Virgin, so to speak, and would love some connections. I've asked a couple of times. Hope you hear back from some Vancouverites.

Cheers everyone, Dan.

I have had the luck to happen to know of a long time burner, so, I have had LOTS of advice passed along to me. I wold be happy to discuss stuff with you. I also would love to meet up with some other experienced Burners from Vancouver. My friend is not attending this year and I am going it alone.

You could try joing the burningvan.org. I seem to be having some problems with my Logon. Maybe you will have better luck!

fellow Vancouver burners,

Is anyone driving to BM? I'd rather have the experience of getting there than jumping on a plane. Will help with food and gas money of course.

I'm in Vancouver as well, and there isn't that much going on here really.

There's a party called Sizzle on July 21st. Other than that, there's usually a Halos and Horns party sometime in the fall, Santacon in the winter, and Recompression April long weekend.

The burningvan.org site is not that active.

From my personal experience (please don't let me bias you one way or the other), I've been attending sporadic BM events in Vancouver, and the only people I've made friends with have been from other scenes who happened to be "Burners", or were from Seattle.

I *hearts* the Seattle burners!

But really, the Vancouver burners are not any more exclusionary than ANY of the other scenes in this city...so...

Connecting

Post by nemoeric » Fri Sep 14, 2007 9:05 am

It's easy to connect to Vancouver Burners:

1. Subscribe to the various lists and forums, a good starting point being a quiet web forum www.burningvan.org
2. If there's an event coming up, attend an organizational meeting, introduce yourself to others, ask questions, volunteer.
3. Attend an event.
4. Follow through on what you said you'd do.
5. If you see someone you've met already, say hi again. Chat about the weather if you can't think of anything else to say. Any social lubricant will do.
6. Gift those you meet with something simple like a piece of gum, a necklace, a bottle of water, a hug.
7. If they write you an email, respond, even if it's to say, "Your project/event doesn't interest me at this time," then think about how you exclude yourself that way.

Most of the whiners simple fail to follow through, and wonder why they're not embraced. Leave your dramas behind. Remain positive. Put more energy into the community than you take out of, and you'll be pulled in faster than you could imagine.

There might not be monthly regional events, but there are many burner-related local events several times a month through most of the year. But, you won't know about them unless you've tapped in. It's all up to you.

It's really easy.
