Epiphany Points...

Post by CLARKcon » Fri Sep 14, 2007 8:14 pm

This year was my fifth year out, and each year (either on the spot or in retrospect) I have a moment that I define as my "epiphany" (peak, climax, etc.) point. It comes at different times or days during the week, but I have one for each year that I think sums up my week, and then essentially, all the time after that point is just a bonus :D What are some of your points of this year (07') or years past?

Midnightish Monday morning on the opening greeter's shift was my first big one.

I had an early arrival because of my camp and the first 2 days were pretty cool but coupled with a lot hard work getting everyhing set up and adjusting to the altitude and environment. The reality of the "spectacle" did not really sink in until I was out there welcoming people to a home I had just discovered myself.

But I really think my biggest moment of... acceptance? realization? rationalization? I can't really find the right adjective... came when I trekked to Center Camp and sent that first email to my wife on Tuesday afternoon. I was so totally not prepared for that wave of raw fucking emotion that overtook me when her picture came up on the screen and I started trying to put what I was just starting to experience into words for her. And I can accept the irony that it took a communication with the outside world to finally open that last door to let me experience and enjoy this vibrant new world around me. It was like I needed that last connection to actually allow myself to disconnect.

Next year, I don't know what it will be since she is making noise now to come along. :)

Standing next to my girlfriend while watching the Crude Awakening burn. The massive fireball basically sealed up the decision for her to come back next year, she's a pyro at heart so that burn was perfect.
