:( This was my fifth year at the burn and still I cannot re-enter without crying for days, walking around like a zombie, being impatient with day-to-day meaningless drama, etc. This year was the worst, and I thought it would be better because I knew it was coming and tried to prepare for it (vitamins, more water, less drinking). I have had post-partum depression and it feels extremely similar. And it sucks big time.
I wish there were a silver bullet for this, but unless you live near other burners to hang with and talk to, the only recourse is everything we all seem to be doing. Taking it slow, easing yourself into things and getting plenty of rest and solitude. I'm using hair of the dog, music, and wind therapy (motorcycles and kites), and it is helping somewhat. Logic, as in: "if you stayed on the playa year round it would never be so magical" is also some comfort. Still, I just can't shake that "disconnected from the unreality of the stupid default world" feeling. But then, maybe I just don't want to.

Hugh,
I'm not saying it is that way for everyone. But for me, after having several people go that I thought would be burners for life & then never come back (in one case leave less than 24 hours after arrival), I stopped promoting BRC. I find that the people that make the effort on their own rather than being coerced(? maybe not the right word) into it seem to enjoy it more.

I don't care what the borg says: feather-wearers will NOT be served in Rosie's Bar.
When I ask how many burns, I mean at BRC.

Yeah, I completely went through it this week...Thursday was worst, kicking around town (I'm still in Reno) feeling so totally alone and almost desparate, tried to beat it every which way but all I wanted was to be out on the playa again. Then as I was walking down by the river I saw poi spinning on the other side of the water, happiest moment of my life! Turned out not to be a Burner crowd, but I did meet another Burner stranded in town and we've been hanging out since, helping each other through and keeping a bit of the spirit going. If anyone else is in Reno and feeling the same way, we're going to organise an informal little get-together tonight for hugs, gifting, maybe some activities around the casinos? The topic's over here:

Yeah, thats the norm. Sorry you didn't understand the part that said in small print on the edge of the ticket "Re-entering Civilisation May Cause Temporal Rifts And May Or May Not Be Possible, Ever!"
Even after 6 times, I still have gotten it quite right.

Thank you so much Captain for your support. You did great! Terminal City was a huge success because of the wonderful people that kept the home fires burning.
Thank you Red for your help in keeping me tethered to the planet surface when the shit storm hit on wednesday.
Thank you CO for your warmth and leadership.
Thank you Titwi and Pinemom for your mayorial leadership and building a warm and safe home camp to come home to after work.
Word of advice for those who just got de-virginized: drink a LOT of water/electrolytes for a couple weeks yet. It will help your emotional decompression and improve your energy levels.
This Public Service announcement brought to you by The DPW, we built you the city so give us beer. And by Terminal City, where your doom will be better next year.

Cap…
The decomp will pass. It’s hard and evolves as the years go by. But its always there in some form and I still wouldn’t trade it for anything.
By the way, It was really good to meet you this year. I wish we’d have been able to get The Contraption over to that side of the city more often. I really wish I'd had more time to just sit and talk with people... but I always do.
One of the best memories was of coming upon the MASH roadblock. I don’t know if you were there (we hadn't actually met yet at that time), but The CO was. We had a crew of DPW hooligans when we came across the roadblock. The tough chick driving was screaming “We’re gonna ram ya!! We’re gonna ram ya!! I was on the pump crew and seeing her showing no sign of stopping, thought for sure she was gonna do it. But I figured she’s the pilot, so we kept giving her power as long as she wanted it. Then at the last second she slammed the brakes and stopped about 6 inches from the gate.
I laugh like hell every time I think of this story. You guys helped make this burn the best one yet for me, man… What a trip.
ETA: By the way, that chick that was driving that day… she and her guy are the ones who forged out the flywheel with me. If she’d taken that gate out, at least you would have been rammed by a damn good one.

Stopping Le Contraption loaded with DPW was one of my favorite moments as well... Made even more fun when I realized who/what it was!
Side note: The security gates are made to break away; we have had them rammed in years past. I even brought some spares.
Can't say enough about how cool the contraption is!

I agree wholeheartedly!!!! Such fun stopping y'all. Even more fun watching a few of the DPW folks trying not to blow a gasket because we had dared to stop them in their city! I was laughing so hard it was quite difficult to demand ID from anyone (tho somehow I managed). The CO wrote:Stopping Le Contraption loaded with DPW was one of my favorite moments as well... Even better for me was driving Le Contraption.
Kisses to Robbi! The day was exhausting, but VERY satisfying. It's really cool to feel as tho I gave something that really mattered back top my beloved BRC.

Arrived home in default this morning. I am totally wasted. Feel like I want to do something but there is nothing to do. I did not decomp last year. This year I had a few wonderful days of Decomp at Titwi and Pinemoms place in Lemmongrad. (Thank you so very much for that.) But it was not enough. Thank you all for a wonderful burn.

Ok shit, I am probably one of the least emotional guys when it comes to the sentimental side, but reading this actually brought me to tears.
Damn you Smashy! I will pay you back for this, no oven mitt will protect you from my wrath.
You guys helped make it one hell of a week and I thank each and everyone one of you I met at the Booby Bar and anywhere else for the amazing experiences I had.

Just a thought... I do like the Mamogram idea... But perhaps something more along the lines of Breastular health?

I must confess.
Was choking back tears when the man burned.
Didnt want to say goodbye to anyone for fear of losing it .
Guess that is what I enjoyed the most , was how open everyones souls are at BRC.
Thank you to everyone that made that first burn awesome.
...now i understand the signs that read : LAST YEAR WAS BETTER.
