Bush and Cheney will light the Man 2008
And you thought the theme was shocking. Whats next!
2009
Did you hear the 2009 theme was leaked by Larry Harvey?
"2009 - Christian Vision. This year's art theme is about Christianity -- not that kind which fosters guilt on the collective consciousness of the faithful with authoritarian dictates from organized religion, but a spirituality that is based upon a love of God and fellow Man. Leave dogma at home; forget any specific religion you identify with; let go of beliefs that divide us. Martyrdom and idol worship play no part in this year's theme. Ask yourself, instead, a more immediate question. What has Christianity achieved that you admire or feel proud of? What has it done or failed to do that makes you feel dismayed? Put blame for religious warfare aside. In this year of spiritual renewal dare to ask an even greater question: What can postmodern Christianity, this stumbling, roused, half-conscious giant of 2000 years, yet give to the world?
In 2009, the Burning Man will hang atop a towering cross. This edifice will feature symbols below the cross that represent the religions of the world. Ranging from Islam, to Judaism, from Wicca to Buddhism, these 244 symbols will shine in the night, gleaming like cut gems upon the surface of an altar. Christianity will be among them. Each religion can be said to represent a dream no less radiant or precious than the rest. Each religion may be viewed as a container of the soul; yet each one can be said to be a glimmering illusion, an arbitrary entity defined by boundaries on their own religious tenents. All of us stand before God at Black Rock City. What can we dream Christianity to be?

Re: Bush and Cheney will light the Man 2008
That is not quiet correct. B&C are lighting the Man, but from inside of the Man's head, where they will be tied for the week of Burning Man. If their ropes burn through before the head is consumed, they will be free to attempt an escape by repelling down the flaming edifice. If not, they will be consumed by the fire. It will all be rather reminiscent of "The Pit and the Pendulum", a story conceived and written in America.Lifeisshort wrote:And you thought the theme was shocking. Whats next!
