Keeping the process GREEN

Post by Lifeisshort » Tue Sep 25, 2007 7:01 pm

I would like to propose that the Burn Man Orginization publicly state it's commitment to producing the event in a "Green" fashion. Althought the "Green Man" has come and gone, there were some pretty cool Green applications that were utilized in 2007. As we entertain the "American Dream", part of our pride should be our dedication and acknowledgment to correcting the enviromental crisis that we were so instrumental in creating. This is an excellent oppurtunity for our community to demonstrate our adherance to a less toxic lifestyle. I beleive it is at the heart of our community to protect the the earth and would love to see a continuance of all the green processes that were introduced this year. Moreover, it would be spectatular to produce the event at the next level of "GREENiness (this may or may not be a word):) I call for a public declaration from the orginization confirming its commitment to running and producing the event as enviromentally friendly as possible. To not only continue with the alternative fuel sources utilized this year but to reduce the petroleum usage by some "agreed upon %" over 2007. OK I will get off the soap box now.

What does this mean? If they were to actually do that, we'd all stay home because there would be no event, we wouldn't burn the man, we wouldn't allow things to be burnt. It's probably more green to not bring water trucks. There are probably more green processes to deal with the human excrement we leave. Should we do the best to take care of that mess even if it means tickets are now $3000? You want them to make a meaningless statement because as you phrase it, you're saying absolutely nothing. You're not "Green" if you just protect the environment in ways that are convenient, and the people who build this event are not going to inconvenience themselves indefinitely and jack up the ticket prices. Just like you probably have a car, computer and you probably wear nice looking clothes instead of old clothes that function just as well. You could sacrifice many things to make yourself greener, but which things in your life are you not willing to be inconvenienced with?

If YOU want to do something to make the event greener, I'm certain most people would applaud you, but don't go around telling other people they should work harder and pay more money when you haven't even shown that you're willing to do the same.

Hurrah! You have found the solution to the playa overpopulation problem!

No burning, only simulated burning, no nudity (it's illegal you know). The MOOP problem will not exist, since there won't be anyone there.

Deal with it - this is the future of "Burning" ManR.

Slow down, no one said anything about not burning the man. Just using green energy for the behind the scenes functions. OH, thats right, I forgot, we are a bunch of "roustabouts and carnies" incapable of change.

The fact remains, the centerpiece is a gout of fire and smoke, which some of us come close to worshipping.

There's a fucking carbon footprint for you that your little hybrid and solar oven will not cancel out.

Don't be a hypocrite, if you care about pollution, go all the way.

No way, man! As an American I demand my right to have my cake and eat it, too! :P
