What a tough spot, BB. Big Sur is so yummy, esp if the rent is covered. Another drink to clear the brain.

BB, try working it this way:

When you think of each opportunity, which one gives you the warmest and fuzziest feeling? Factor in the job, assuming they aren't the same, the living conditions, the location, the money, etc. It doesn't matter what any of us would do, it only matters which would make YOU the happiest. Money and job description alone aren't going to make you happy if you hate what you're doing or where you live.

Keep us all posted. I hope you get whatever your heart desires!

BBSue:

Try a week in Nov. @ BigSur....See how you like a week of winter weather there.

I know coastal areas here get about 20 -30 outstanding weather days a year. The rest of the year the bars are full of depressed people......

Right on BBSue! Great to have good choices. I would definitely drink about it before deciding. And after deciding, of course.

Good point about the washout risk there PM. Of course, sac's gonna flood when the levies go. So yr doomed either way.

Ummmm . . . tried it for what?

Another sip - Sacramento's too fucking hot in the summer & I'm pretty sure that Big Sur isn't as wet as Vancouver in November. Sip - sip - sip.

So here's how I got to Big Sur
Hitchhiking from Eugene to Los Angeles, summer, 1971. Seems like everyone who picked me up had a bottle of wine in the car. Sun getting low, second day, a retired astronomer picks me up along with two other guys. Took us to some brushy place near the sea at Big Sur, gave us a tour of the stars, millions of them above the surf. More wine.
Ride ended next day, dumped at Santa Monica Pier by four vatos locos who started their car with a screwdriver. "Don't worry, we just lost the key." They ran out of wine and headed out to find a liquor store. I caught the bus to my aunt's house. All of 19 years old.

sip - sip - sip
Guess you know which one I'd pick, Sue.

Wow, I *really* love you guys, thanks!!!

(sip... sip... sip...)

Thing is, they're both "dream jobs".

(gulp... gulp... gulp...)

The one in Sac is a promotion, in a field I really like. It's a chance ot meet people, to travel throughout the state, and could be really fun. Plus when things hit the fan, I'd be in or near the middle of it - my preferred spot. Bummer is, well, it's in Sac (I lived there for a number of years with the ex-), it's a job where I can be called out at any time, and it's answerable to the muckymucks on high in Caltrans (the state DOT), could be fun, could be dynamite. Could also be a pressure cooker.

(Chug... chug... chug...)

The one in Big Sur, well, it's a transfer, not a promotion, but because it's provided housing it's like a virtual raise (tho it won't help the retirement out on the back end). I actually know people down there (well, south of there in Lucia), I spend time there every year, the yard (and house) is in a "forest" so to speak, and the crew is a group of really dynamite guys. It's a spot where I'd be kinda in the spotlight, it's a travel destination, and it's pretty. Bummers are, well, the weather, it's a tourist hotbed, it's a political hotbed (think Marin or Orange County), it's a really, really, REALLY small town, and yeah, it's a coastal road which is prone to things like slides, etc.

(Guzzle... guzzle... guzzle...)

I'll shee wha's off'red, how I do on thuh inner'voo, and shee ifsh dey wansthth me...

(glug... glug... glug...)

(hic)
