There was just a piece about Laika on NPR'sStudio 360... Warning- Though very good, it is also sad.

Yeah, the Soviets did lose quite a few people.
I might read the NPR article later-- I should be apartment hunting, and later going for a test and (hopefully) interview for the job I lost earlier in the year.
