Show us what you can do, once you get serious!
AND IF HAPPENS TO BE IGNITED EARLIER THAN SCHEDULED, THEN WE'LL HAVE TWICE AS MUCH FUN.

I really cannot discuss the total cost of the show, but the equipment we used to fire it is another matter. The PD system, the field controllers and cabling cost a little over 75K. All the labor was dontated, we borrowed the firing system and cables.
Those who think they can and those who think they can't are both right.

In 06' Nate Smith did "2BLEVE". This year it was 4BLEVE. Each sphere is 250 gallons. They were filled close to capacity. The mixture was a combination of JP8, gasoline and propane. The ratios are his trade secret. The Bleve cannons were on a separate circuit as was the big propane cannon. We did not want those two items to fire automatically. We wanted them to be manually controlled so a go/nogo decision could be make at the last moment if there was a "situation".
Those who think they can and those who think they can't are both right.

When a plane is defueled, the Military is not able to put that same fuel back in the tanks as there is no way, short of refiltering, to make certain that the fuel has not been contaminated. They pay approx $200 per barrel to have the fuel taken away and burned. Now they give it to me and I take it away and burn it. The difference being is I don't charge them. I use a large quantity (up to 50 gallons per min) in my own flame effects device which I didn't bring this year. This gave us extra fuel for the 4BLEVE cannons. Crude Awakening did use huge amounts of scrap metals and other materials that were no longer useful for their original purpose.
Those who think they can and those who think they can't are both right.

Spectacular event, perfectly executed.
Good to find out some of the actual technical detaills, as had heard some fairly distorted versions of the fuel and methods used (Is there a correct term for "Playa Chinese Whispers"?)
It profoundly marked in my mind, the end of the abundant hydrocarbon binge
So happy to hear of plans for next year and that there will be embellishments next year.
AMP IT UP.

Possibly more of a Reconnection than Overcompensation.
Have just spent several million years with the rest of the tribe roasting prime mastodon rib and brontasaurus burgers around the fire, followed by a bit of drumming of course. We sometimes used fire to flush out and direct the obects of the hunt.
At night we would dream of a better world where fire was hidden in boxes and seldom seen naked.
CA is just a temporal compression of the absent daily caveman fires. That is why it needs to be huge.
It just occurs to me that the nexus between fire and food is so strong that a hot dog stand would really clean up at a communal fire and where were those drummers?
