Flag Burning - count on it.

Post by Alchemy » Fri Oct 05, 2007 6:42 pm

Okay, heres a chuckler!

Set up a stand at Wadsworth, Empire and Gerlach-
sell little flags of Old Glory and of The man over the stars ..
take the money and buy your tickets last minute-and gift them to those who can answer random questions about AMERICAN HISTORY and recite its Bill of Rights -The Pre-amble-The I have a Dream speach..ect..
Then take the lil flags and
burn them at the Saturday nite burn when the man falls and we all rush the circle for the three round jig..
make a wish for a brighter America....
the troops
or for a better fucking theme..
Whether you burn the flag
or the Man..
its your patriotic right..
huh?!

Now which one of you "I cant come up with my own Theme plan" stealin assholes are gonna pilf this hot phat gem of lasting playa gifting offa the e-playa from me as usual? " hmmmmmmm?
DARE YOU BITCHES ahahahahahahhahhahahahahaha!!

I think somebody should dress up as Robert E. Lee or Nathan Bedford Forrest and hand out little rebel battle flags. Down with that bloody Yankee rag!

*looks around*

...just to monkeywrench the knee-jerk sophomoric concept of burning American flags in the name of overprivelaged suburbanite angst. Flag burning is the college-kid intellectual equivalent of calling mommy a bitch and threatening to run away. Invariably, inevitably, you'll be back. Usually, when you get hungry or afraid. 'Cause deep down inside you know mommy loves you and will always take you back.

Yeah, that's right up there with the battle over People's Park in Berkeley. It's so funny that the very people who were defending the homeless people's right to stay there 40 years ago (sheesh was it that long) are the same people who are saying the park needs to get cleaned up and all the homeless people and drug users pushed out.

Flag burning.

American Dream = flag burning as a means of protest of by both American and non-American alike.

Flag burning as in Burningman.

Oh, NOW I get it.

YES! Thats what a "wonderfully brilliant" theme like this one does when it comes to inspiration. I wont be surprised if there is barely any art on the playa in 2008. That way they can learn the hard way for picking such a lame unliked theme.

I got the story from the university's point of view primarily from the professors who lived it (convo with Prof. L. Nader in specific) which is rather different than the POV you see on Wikipedia.

I don't go to Wiki to reference People's Park. What are these prof's creds? What were the demographics of the people who protested and are they talking about literally the same persons, or are they just filed into catagories carelessly. I'm simply very suspicious about claims made about the protesters of the 60s and 70s. Few of the story arcs replicate Jerry Rubin's.

For instance, Stew Albert doesn't seem to have become a yuppie.

Yeah there's David Horowitz, and I don't respect him, yet I still feel that if a friend of yours was killed by the Black Panthers (or if you belive he was) that freaking out is a very real, very human reaction.

Well, Prof. Nader likes to rip conventional notions of things apart and raise important questions about how we view the world. (You should hear her views on commercialization and big business!) Kinda like folks here. A lot like her famous brother too, I hear, although I haven't read much of his stuff. As I mentioned, it was a personal conversation I had with her when she was mocking the hypocrisies that exists in the world. She's decidedly not online, but there's a brief synopsis of who she is on the department's website

Yeah, it is a little careless to say it's the "same" people, because a lot of the original protesters left. But these are the folks that claim to carry on the tradition. Some are not even old enough to remember all that. I think the point is, the tradition was made with full knowledge that they were supporting this sort of activity. In fact, one of the arguments for preserving it as a park (instead of a sports field like the university wanted, which wouldn't have been significantly worse) is that it had become the homeless people's homes.

:D

Hey Badger, did the part about using the fucking proceeds to great gift tickets to anyone at the gate who can answer random questions about American HISTORY and its core tennants surrounding LIBERTY escape your keen but tenatious eye?
Jeezus fucking tapp dancing Christ on a stick, wearing a Tommy Hilfiger Diaper, and biting his nails painted in quality red ,white and blue " Old Glory" style by Korean girls working in their mommys nail salon to pay their way thru med school!!

The main idea was to support the poor and test the hippy bastard gate begging contingent for their education in AMERICAN philosophy,by rewarding their efforts with a granted ticket.HOPEFULLY a resurgence in the tenants forged out by our founding fathers( and mothers) would re-inspire SOMEONE ANYONE to fight for our libertys and the voice of the common man ,and preserve the freedom to live and express our selves with out persectution or teireny..or prevent us from attending the event for lack of money.
THE FUCKING RUB of the stoopid idea was that more than likely next years Man will be a wash in yet again..more fireworks than china can make in decade, rivalling The Burn with every 4th of July extravaganza..
and will go down in history as The Shmaltziest Burn Ever. To throw in the flags
after the man falls as a symbol of over cheesing the cheese,is two fold.
One : it signifies with its little man over the stars that the burn was once and should forever remain pure and universal. On the sacred Old glory remake it symbolizes - THE SYMBOL OF THE PURE.
TWO
When a flag is burned it is because either it has touched the ground, and thus "fallen"If a symbol of America has fallen, then it symbolixes that America too has fallen, and must be burned as it purifies the idea of The sacred having been corrupted by a lower plane by burning the corruption out.
As Americans we can express ourselves and Americas state of being by how this flag is flown ,half mast-quarter mast, upside down,To burn the flag expresses the finger to the government . In the late 60s and early 70s,flags were being used much to the shock of many older Americans ,as clothing, for patches on jeans and at ralleys to burn flags on various campuses.Several years ago an artist was in the center of controversy for doing a performance piece involving Burning an American flag in direct inspiration over the repression of the first amedment and the developing bills over the pledge of alligiance in the schools, and to out law flag burning.
His action was a reminder that it is NOT the fucking flag as a symbol that is MORE IMPORTANT than the RIGHTS and LIBERTYS the piece of fabric represented. He did it as a prudent reminder that he had THE RIGHT under the constitution fought for and died for by this country, to Burn the flag, as a form of free expression..perhaps RADICAL free expression and that this reminded people thru contraversy -even an unpopular act,or opinion ,or crappy gesture of un-orriginal banal art is still and should be forever protected.
The man falls after his cheezy display, and we thro our cheeze in the flames to support the old pure burn-the right to fight cheeze with cheeze and in the name of radical rediculous free expression, and mock everything naive and contraversial in the process...fuck...your...burn...
annnnnnd all on tv yet!
and while supporting those who are financially impaired burning TRUE AMERICANS!!!..
WHAT DONT YOU LOVE ABOUT THIS hysterical idea? Oh sure on the surface it appears to suck, but its got the knee pads of a cheerleader and smells like cheap beer and kerosene. Lets hear it for the red white and BLOW!
