missing the playa

Post by duke of weimar » Mon Sep 24, 2007 7:21 pm

Hey there folks, this was my virgin burn ('07) and I now find myself missing the playa and the freedom it brings into play a great deal. I spend most of my free time seeking out photos and vids from this or previous year's events just to feel a little better. Was wondering if this is typical for a virgin's first playa experience? If so, what did you do about it when you were in my shoe? I can't wait to get back to the playa next year - regardless of what the theme is. I just want to be able to be back riding around the playa, dodging dust storms, and checking out all of the brilliant ideas I see on most of you folks. Help a virgin out!!!! Duke

Duke, you might want to check out this thread. It may touch on stuff you find interesting.

It has really helped me rebound back from the Playa Doldrums to start planning ahead for next year. Going over what really worked in my camping setup, what needs improvement and what was just excess baggage to haul there and back.

Start the wheels turning now and getting stuff together so the last minute details and scrambles are kept to a minimum.

And... get my fat ass back in the gym.

Oh yeah. Build the Art Car, a glorious emblem of the Glorious People's magnificent struggle and mighty hammer striking a blow against the oppressive imperialism of the Western Pig Dogs, and figure out the logistics of hauling it from Texas to BRC and back. :)

What's frustrating is that all the things "I should do" for next year involve other people. I get frustrated waiting on everyone else's schedule. I want it all... and I want it now. :P

I hear ya Val. I can't get past the things I want to do to even examine the things I should be doing. But I do like Cap's idea about working on next year . . . . . . .

There's a difference between "want to" and "should"?

I suppose I should collect a cheap ugly bike for next year. That's assuming I don't get my personalized artistic vehicle/mobile sculpture going for next year. My Decom costume has really gotten me jazzed about acrylic.

That is a great idea for a camp, Spidermonkey!!
This was my first time on the Playa and I miss it all the time! It was an absolutely amazing experience that I wish we could live every day! I do try though.
Anyway, I live in the Los Angeles area and I could not make it to this decomp (bad ass accident on the 5 shut it down). Any LA people out there fill me in on any of the happening around here for fellow Burners, I would love to check it out!
Cheers! :D
