Hee. It's the "back end" to this whole thing where all the data - posts, accounts and all the standard parts - is held. Querying the database directly is part of the "advanced" course. It's entirely possible that the person who maintains the server doesn't do that, since it's running phpBB, a common and generally considered "bulletproof" bulletin board system it probably doesn't need a lot of maintenance.
It's hard to have a normal conversation with someone with 6' acrylic rods strapped to your back.
