Hey, I'm all about negative things that have a point. And I must be honest in my admission that I didn't like the Green Man theme, and rather like the American Dream theme because Green man was just too uncontroversial.

However, if you're going to bitch, bitch about something meaningful. Like being too polyanna - yep, that's a good one - and not about stupid stuff that nobody would support you on anyway.

Stress for stress' sake is just tedious. Real conflict? Now that's the seeds of good art.

WHAT?!!??!!

I was born in 1963, and I'm not old, dag nabbit! What's with you whipper-snappers claiming to be old, when yer younger'n I?!?

True, I might'n not be as green as I was once, but that's mostly because I lost the wig! Or summthin' like that.

Anyways, things might creak or take a little longer than they used ta, but that's not what impotent here, uhm I mean "important"! That is..., what was I talking about again? Oh, yeah, you're only as young as who you feel! That's it! And I feel, er, well, right now no one-- so I feel zero years old, and that's pretty danged young, if I do say so myself and I do!

Why, I still listen to young folks music... Well, okay, it is true because, due to its loudness, it is the only music I can actually HEAR, but that is besides the point! Point is, well, a pretty good beer, actually.... Uhm, who are you folks and what are you doing in my computer?!?

Darn, time for my nap!

Soooooo very sorry if my Creepy guys storys were to WELL - CREEPY and negative...

From now on out I will keep all my negative thoughts and storys to myself OR post them on tribe where they belong :P

Just to clarify: I didn't mean to single out po' Valkyrie for the lemming-like behavior displayed in this thread (in fact, I have a weakness for moody chicks who draw their own avatars - see Blueniteowl - but that's beside the point) , I actually meant to say a hearty "Fuck you' to all you it's-all-good types.

I also don't want anyone to feel left out.

ah sensei, thank you......

the thing i really appreciate about our community is the Healthy and Robust
"Fuck YOU"s that everyone should be a part of and share....

it all depends on delivery i suppose, like a smoky, silky whispered "fuck Youuuu."....that's kinda hot....

or a friendly, happy, puppy like greeting "FUCK,,,,, YOU!"

or when looking skyward when you've forgot your water bottle and you are halfway across the playa "Fuck You..."

of course, i have a degree, from FUCK U., and will be teaching an adjunct class next year on the proper intonation and syllabic emphasis needed to distinguish amongst all the Fucks and Yous out there on the playa.

fuck you and have a fucking nice day.

OK, so explain to me how important it is to have a theme.

And how hard it would be to handle the CHAOS that would ensue if the had a Year Without A Theme.

The theme is control, and BMorg needs to take a nap.

Why BM has themes:
1: It gives Larry something to do.
2: It sets some sort of criterion for art grants.
3: There is no third reason. We are free to fold, spindle, mutilate, re-purpose, or ignore the theme each and every year.

Hmm. CHAOS would be a good theme. So would CONTROL, for that matter. Not too certain CHAOS AND/OR CONTROL would make a good theme, but I bet that is what it would wind up being....

FUCK YOU! might be a decent theme, too!

Still, the one I can most get behind, would be LET'S GET DRUNK AND PARTY!!!

:D

I'll have you know I had an angst-ridden Finnish teenager draw my avatar. (I can't draw figures to save my life.)

I'm glad you included my friends in your criticism. After all, if you're going to have cheerleaders, you really need a whole squad to be effective.

A third reason I might mention for a theme is when brainstorming, it sometimes is handy to have SOMEWHERE to begin. Y'know a dart on the board of ideas and all that.

BAS, those are wonderful theme ideas. Maybe you can whisper them in Larry's ear for next year.

The Theme is the Center Cafe
of the Burning Man's current vision.
It's not like it's the best coffee/vision on the playa.
But IT"S IN THE CENTER!
It's the yearly Pax Romana.

Chaos was almost chosen as the theme of this year's SeaCompression in Seattle. But it came in third after Bacon, and the winner, Rainbows and Unicorns.

Yeah, like every single fucking thread needs to be RAH!-RAH! doesn't it? Fuck you. Someone starts one goddamned thread about why they won't be coming back and you starry-eyed morons immediately jump in with the 'Dude, you're being all negative!' bullshit.
This was my sixth and I believe my last burn. Its just too much for me anymore. I kept feeling that I was at a "Costco Burning Man". Even the burner look is so boring and predictable. From dayglo wigs and phony hair extensions to utilikilts. Such a lack of authenticity. Face it most everyone there is just there to party party party. Its spring break in the desert. Thats fine, but I always went for the art. As always, I did a couple of art projects. Its long hard work producing the art and installing and maintaining it. I ask myself whats the point? The thrill is gone. The magic never happened. The dust got me. Too many dirty drunk hippies and not enough true participation. Im so fucking over it. Too much caste system. Too much Im cooler then you, more burner then thou. Too much monstrous ego among the burner hard core elite. Im done . Finished. Over it. Thanks for the memories.
It sounds to me like its many of you that are changing, more so than the event.

Apparently, the new topic is Unicorns and Rainbows.

I really, truly thought S.B. was kidding. I was shocked at first upon seeing this, as anyone would be I'm sure you agree, but then I remembered my hard-earned education and now I think I know just what to do.

What's genuinely scary is that I know some/most of the organizers and they've always seemed fairly normal - until now that is. Obviously, someone has gone quite insane.

Are they watching Mork and Mindy and talking about what a genius Robin Williams is, because that'd pretty much cinch it.

LAME! ... and the mascot is certainly not hung like his less horny cousins.

Wait a minute, there might be a sinister angle to this. Who loves unicorns and rainbows more than pre-teen girls?
