Any time you take away someone's ability to control their own body without their consent, it shouldn't be considered overreacting.

In the Amazon basin, there are tribes that exist out there that have a very different view on sexuality. Women really don't really have much choice in who they have sex with, but for the most part, it's not really a big deal. They typically get married in polygynist relationships, with men potentially having many wives. Of course, since there are as many men as women in the groups (genetics works that way!), there are a lot of guys who don't get to have wives. So it's generally perfectly acceptable for them to, when the mood strikes them, just grab a woman and have his way with her. As long as she's borne at least one child for her husband, he won't mind. At worst, the women view it as potentially somewhat unpleasant.

It's seen by everyone as a perfectly reasonable thing to do to relieve the tensions that unmarried men have. Of course, such a thing would be called "rape" in our society and anyone who did it with such a casual attitude would likely be stoned to death around here. Their attitude would likely be "sheesh, lighten up, it's not that big a deal. Don't overreact so much."

The point being that everything is relative. I know these straightedge folks can take things pretty seriously. I have to admire the dedication that people make whenever they stick to difficult principles. So this becomes not just a compromise of their body, but the principles they try so hard to maintain.

At the very least, marijuana can interact badly with other medications the person's on (anti-depressants, for example). This could be part of why she freaked out.

Some of us are old enough to remember when raping your wife was seen as legitemate. The fact that women are treated like shit all over the world don't make it right.

For some, that means the freedom to drink like a fish and take massive bong hits.

No one is going to try to force drugs or alcohol on you. (They may politely offer them, but never force them on you!

) If, as others have said already, you feel you are unable to interact with someone who may be under the influence of certain substances you don't approve of, then I would recommend you not attend, you won't enjoy it. If you can get past that, and leave each to his or her own, you should definitely go, there's lots of unique art, music, and fellowship,

as well as hundreds of dirty hippies, all of them hopped up on goofballs and god knows what else, just waiting to serve you a perfectly sealed bottled water laced with enough LSD to kill a water buffalo...

bring sunscreen and plenty of lube, you'll need it!

overreacting......hmmmmm....yes, and no.....and guilt is NO FUN on heavy duty hallucinogens, so maybe i took it too hard...

i've been on the playa since 96'...my first year i was dosed with some liquid..

had a GREAT FUCKING BURN NIGHT......but thats me...

i'm a drug dumpster....

one mans poison is another mans motley crue, or something like that...

so yes, from one point of view, what i did was minor, but i fucked up this girl's night, and as a result mine, because i didnt think things all the way thru, and as an experienced burner, and a Father of 4, AND and East Coaster, (ga ZING) i should know better...

but it is a mad mad mad mad world out there, and to get a minute quantity of mid-grade pot in your spaghetti sauce isnt THAT bad in comparison.

but i understand, she had no choice in the matter, and I admit to being stupid.

hard edge, serrated, dull rusty, all the blades are welcome, and i wont make the mistake of forcing anything on anyone again. Unless it's my opinion or flatulence (which may in some rare cases, be both..)

it's a big playa out there....and rainbows are'nt just for faggots either...;)

Maybe she was having a contact high and needed someone to blame it on.

And I wonder if it truly ruined her evening. Hopefully after a couple hours she came down and was back to her straightedge self.

I'm not really sure I understand the comparison to rape. I'm not saying dosing without consent is OK, I'm just wondering that if you do get accidentally dosed with a small dose of a rather benign substance, it might not be worth raining calumny down on the doser.

I was on drugs from the first mile in my drive to Burning Man to the last mile coming home. The drug, unfortunately, was ibuprofen as a result of throwing my back out while packing my Subaru. At my first gas stop, I opened the car door and fell smack down on the pavement when my back decided to go out again. I pulled myself up using the car and the gas pump. All of a sudden, a voice from the gas pump squawks "You'll have to pre-pay!"

Although for most of us it would have no long term effects, I can tell you that I know people that have fought gallantly against huge odds to maintain their sobriety - from all intoxicating substances. Imagine getting a 20 year chip to have it ruined by someone spicing the sauce! Trust me - for those people it would be a very big deal.

Well, I might not have gone there myself, but since you asked...

The key concept is CONSENT. If I put something in your body without your prior consent, that is a violation of your person. My debating over whether that "something" is a big something or a small something, and deciding how I think you should feel about it is problematic.
