when I was a kid, my cousin and I used to collect Japanese beetles and put them in a coffee can loaded with gasoline and then sacrifice them to this big rubber toy Saracen warrior guy we set up as the god of dead beetles. The smoke was awful.

I used to take all but one or two daddy long legs LEGS off...and then watch them scrabble around....but just for a bit, then I would squish them out of their misery, then ask my "family inflicted god" for forgiveness.

Names pinemom, but my friends call me "Piney".
I don’t know, I’ve heard you encourage your youngest daughter to play with fire, you buy her white gas, she soaks stuff in it lights it on fire and swirls it around over her head. Not as direct as putting a sock over a little kitty's head , but I think most people would look at you strangely if they knew what you did to amuse yourself,....... course I think she’s the coolest cat toopinemom wrote:ok sorry CBA...thats sick!Just sick!

Okay, we've got this little ant problem at work, and it's in the window at the slap table. This also happens to be where we keep the screens we cook the pizzas on. When I come on first thing in the morning, sometimes there'll be a lot of them. I call this "movement in the treeline" and immediately grab a stack of screens and put them on the conveyor into the oven. As the screens slowly slide into the oven you see them moving faster trying to get away from the heat. Okay so it's mostly coz I need to clean the screens, and they can't be washed (ruins the season and makes the pies stick). But watching the little buggers run around so frantically is bizzarely fascinating.

Dissecting roadkill as a youngster for crafts and purposly torturing insects for entertainment are things thet most serial killers did in thier youth also.
You people may need some therapy by the sounds of it. Personally, I played frog basesball as a big pastime, 10 years before Beavis and butthead even existed. Also, several times, I got fingered as the guy who started the fire that "got out of hand" and burned something down before I even turned 9.

what makes us different from the serial killers is that we did it because it was cool. They did it to get back at grandpa or dad or Father Mulligan or something.

dude, the other day somebody practically offered to call child protective services for me when i told them i had let my kid hold fire in her hand when doing a contact fire show for a kid party at a friend's house...what if she got burned, blah blah blah, child abuse, blah. whatever. the kid loved it, nobody put an eye out, and it freaked her dad out immensely, all good things on my radar ;) go ahead, play with fire. let's face it, sooner or later you're going to get burned either way...might as well have some fun.

yeah, no chance she'd even think about doing it on her own, she has a healthy respect for the flame. but i do get super cool five year old mom points for spinning fire :) and no, i'm not into taking risks with my kid just for kicks, i felt it was safe. ok, a little nutty, i'll give em that. but safe enough for this parent to make a choice about her own kid. and if her father had seriously objected i would not have done it, for reals. dang, how's this for thread drift :) good thing fishy's otherwise occupied!

I was just teasing pinemom, if that wasn’t apparent, I think with all the precautions, done in an almost ritualistic way complete with the understanding that a safety can spot a spinner starting themselves on fire before the spinner can instills a greater respect for fire than most kids have,... that and sitting around as people show each other their burn scares .
