A dog came and pissed on the 3:00 and Landfill sign.
So I'm sitting in front of my camp and this dog walks up and takes a piss on our street sign. So I says to the owner I says what the fuck is that dog doing here and he says its a search and rescue dog and I says well why the fuck isn't it trained to pee in a box or something. He didn't answer and hurried off.
I latter found out that the guy was camped in a trailer right down the block. So I ask are there really search and rescue dogs allowed in random camps at BRC and secondly if so shouldn't they have to wear some big ass license for ID just like mutant vehicles. Thirdly if dogs are found unlicensed in BRC shouldn't it be all right to put them in tacos. Personally I'm a vegetarian but I think I could make an exception for BRC dog tacos. It would make a great deterrent. Just put a big sign at the gate ALL DOGS WILL BE EATEN!! Then there could be a black rock dog butcher that would be neat.

I think you could make some of the older ones into some mighty fine barbecue. Slow roasted basted often and smoked to perfection!
I do believe that larger dogs would make fine tacos if they're young. Although the 20-30 lb dogs are more plentiful, I doubt there would be any serious distinction in toughness between 2 animals of the same age.
Butchery on the playa is another challenge. It's very hard to control the blood without some area with walls you can hose down easily. Makes that kind of of gray water pretty disgusting and evaporators would then pose a significant health risk.
And what on earth do you need a search and rescue dog out on the playa for?! It seems to me that a pair of binoculars would do far more searching than any dog could do. I would have thought such a critter would have been turned away at the gate like the guide says they will.

True, smoking/slow roasting can turn really tough, stringy meat into a yumfest.
Yes, the butchery would present an interesting challenge such as the problem of the "ick" pond. One solution could be in attracting more carrion/scavenger type critters. Such as a few more crows perhaps?

Granted, this was the only one I saw, but I think "word" would get out if there was easy pickens for them to munch on.
Of course the Playa environment also is very good for a natural drying process and also, more traditional "old school" butchery methods could be utilized where more of the animal is utilized in the processing phase.
The blood is not really an issue. Hang the animal head down and bleed them out into a catch bucket. A fast, slicing cut that opens everything up at once minimizes your spray from arterial pressure. There will be some side spray, but most of it is directed down with help from gravity.

You saw a BIRD?! I'm jealous! Glad you caught a picture of it or I wouldn't have believed it.
Yeah, it's the arterial blood I was concerned with.what a mess. But the ideas of drying the parts sounds appealing. Pity the hide isn't worth anything. Well, I imagine that might depend on the breed. I think you might get a real reaction if you happened to be out riding about on the mall in your dog fur coat.

I am not able to say with certainty, but I have serious doubts that there are search and rescue dogs officially stationed around the Playa.
Yes I saw a bird! It was fairly early on Friday morning and I was heading up to get pics of some of the trees around the Man and he came flying down right in front of me. According to one aspect of animal lore, the Crow is a messenger of change and he may be asking to change ("shape shift") your present reality into the one of your dreams.
I took the arrival of such a magical creature to be a very good omen for the weekend to come.

Yeah, I've been told that some DPW guys are allowed to bring their dogs. The no dogs rule is not because of dogs, it's because of stupid owners who don't: take care of, clean up after, and control their dogs. So don't make dog tacos, make stupid-dog-owner tacos. One of th funniest things I saw this year was a real dog playing with a large shaggy robot dog. I'm not sure if the dog was supposed to be there, but unless I see it causing trouble, I could care less.

YEA I saw a Raven twice last year 2006...
drangon flys, black widow spider,(maybe girl was trying to scare me 'cause I didn't want to kill it),
little mousey out by the temple, then in line as we were leaving friend caught it-then gave it to lady who wanted the poor mousey....she just took it futher out onto playa and let it go....mousey then just ran back for the line - to catch a ride somewhere...
Did YOU pick up a MOUSE hitchhiker??

No kidding! That's a cool picture. The bird's probably wondering what the hell it just landed itself into.Valkyrie wrote:You saw a BIRD?! I'm jealous! Glad you caught a picture of it or I wouldn't have believed it..
In 2004 we had a fly in our van. Our friend chased a spider out of her vehicle, and I saw a seagull hovering overhead. I got to thinking that this all leads to a very hungry Old Lady.
I don't know why she didn't swallow the fly. Perhaps she lied.

Simple reply.
"Show me the dog's laminate".
Dog must have it on at all times.
Otherwise it's like a "large sound camp waiver" to set up that 100 KW sound system next to hushville.
So when you see a dog...
You think it's a BS thing...
"Show me the dogs waiver". I guarantee a ranger would look. As would BLM.
Have an informed day...
