Post by Burner till death » Fri Oct 05, 2007 9:45 am

Whats your definition of a hard core burner?

is it the guy that lives minimally and eats playa dust in a sarong? or is it the DPW person thats there in June and stilll out there cleaning up moop?

I don't think that's one of those things that can be defined since there is no definition of "burner". I'd say someone is "hardcore" at anything when doing it drastically changes and intermingles with most aspects of their life. If you spend three full months out of your life without or for little pay each year doing anything, yes, you're hardcore. I don't know about living minimally. Was burningman ever about minimalism?

burner,,, defined by wikipedia - A burner is anyone who participates in the creation of Burning Man or one of the many regional Burning Man events that occur outside the Black Rock Desert, or anyone who self-identifies with a core set of values manifest at such events......

I think people who get tattoos or brands to commemorate each year they’ve attended are pretty over the top hard core

How about those people who still show up at Baker Beach, expecting a burn there. You don't get much more hard core than that.

I interpret "hard core burner" as implying penetration. Into their everyday lives the other fifty-one weeks of the year, ya perv.

anyone who spends most of their known assets getting to and from the man, only to totally fuck up their lives when they get back because they went, and then spends the rest of the year getting back on their feet, only to throw everything away again to go see the man...

10 years and counting.

Our pal Kiki - who upon first arrival on the playa this year, grabbed a piece of freshly cooked bacon, slathered it on the ground, and chomped the playa dust-encrusted bacon, and declared, "it's great to be back!"

While listening to Midnight Oil....."Beds are Burning"

Out where the river broke
The bloodwood and the desert oak
Holden wrecks and boiling diesels
Steam in forty five degrees

The time has come
To say fairs fair
To pay the rent
To pay our share
The time has come
A facts a fact
It belongs to them
Lets give it back

How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep when our beds are burning

Four wheels scare the cockatoos
From kintore east to yuendemu
The western desert lives and breathes
In forty five degrees

(live - on scream in blue
The time has come
A facts a fact
It belongs to us all
Lets give it back)

is it hardcore when you go to sleep planning for Burning Man and wake up the next day planning for Burning Man... and then realize you had a dream in between that you were *at* Burning Man?

well.... maybe that's just being obsessed.

is it possible to be a hardcore virgin burner?

This is most likely true.. but at least I tried to find something that would give one a hard core. The other thing that popped into my head was a lil too dirty to post to a newcomer.

I worked really hard on a Hallowe'en project, only to realize that it was ideally suited for Playa Play and totally impractical for chilly Michigan Octobers...A puppet/costume "Playasaurus" trimmed in EL wire, with a six-foot rigid tail and big clanky feet that make it impossible to go into any sort of building and that really looks best in a dark, dusty setting.

I was just in Gerlach for the land speed record runs on playa -
and had chance to live in Gerlach for over a week. There are still 20-30 DPW workers living in Gerlach working full time for BM. thats pretty hardcore I thinks.
