His friends who helped post his bail the first time must be feeling pretty low right now...

I feel more sympathy towards him as a nut than just an asshole. But either way I don't need his kind of danger around me. It'll be interesting to see how this shapes the debate over what he did.Stryder wrote:His friends who helped post his bail the first time must be feeling pretty low right now...
Was Paul Addis in ....

With a cool quarter million in reward money on the table, I bet if people weren't interested before, they sure will be now.taptriv wrote:San Diego last week ? Someone should look into that .

It so damn funny to me when I think of all his rabid supporters on Tribe.

I just heard on the news on Bay Area TV, about the jerk(p.addis) and now Pershing County, Nev. is considering REVOKING his bail there. I do believe that this guy is a very loose cannon and should he continue someone is going to get hurt and that is not a pretty sight. I hope Nev throws the book at this idiot....

I believe Apollonaris is referring to the publicity. I had to do a double-take yesterday as I hear on the radio "Paul Addis arrested for another arson charge. Paul Addis is also known for an arson at Burning Man this year."
So I switched over to Fox News to see if they were claiming that there was a terrorist attack in San Francisco...

So disappointed
Ok, before I thought he was an egomaniac and also totally insane.
But I personally thought his torching of the man was awesome, I loved it.
But there's no way I support or enjoy someone trying to set fire to a house of worship. I can't understand any possible motive behind this.
The thing that pisses me off is that it feels now like that action and statement of burning the man is now totally diminished because the person who did it has proved he is a worthless piece of shit.
I would like to still have the message without the messenger, which is an emtional contortion that is most difficult.

The thing that amazes me is that people bought into his bullshit in the first place.madmatt wrote: The thing that pisses me off is that it feels now like that action and statement of burning the man is now totally diminished because the person who did it has proved he is a worthless piece of shit.
Briefly, during the '60s, Charles Manson was a counterculture hero in San Francisco (my mom met him in a truck stop restaurant and said he was a total sexist jackass) and then, all of a sudden, people discovered he was just a racist, pedophile, a mind-raping criminal mastermind and a control freak. :O NAAAWWW, really? You mean the establishment was right about him all along?
A lot of Burners were duped. Turns out Addis is just a narcissistic dick. But, hey, there are still people who think Manson is cool so, there it is.

Irony. You're soaking in it.
Addis and his Monday night "self-immolation"
I'm the one who spotted Addis flicking his lighter torch up on the Man and who ran to alert the rangers--shortly after he told me he was going to perform "self-immolation."
Thankfully the equally obsessed Addis defenders are retreating with their tails between their legs after the latest episode proving his insanity. But I knew that from the beginning.
Here's what happened at Burning Man on Monday night.
Walking underneath the Man just after the moon eclipse reached totality, I was mystified by the neon flashing on and off,
and then I saw him through the crack between
awnings as he moved around up at the feet of the Man.
When he flicked a lighter torch, I ran to find a
ranger. After radioing for help, three of them
intercepted him just as he slid down the awning. News
reports said he was arrested at a distance, but maybe
that is because rangers aren't law enforcement
officers and can't make arrests themselves. (I didn't
watch as he walked away with the rangers escorting him
because I was distracted watching as the Man began to
burn.)
I had met him about ten or fifteen minutes earlier
when he came up to talk to me. Instantly I felt that I
didn't resonate with this odd and seemingly disturbed
person, and he said all kinds of strange things that
were too weird to get a handle on to remember, but
there was a
bunch of talk about doing "self-immolation" and
scaling the
Man and sliding down on a zip line without the
distracted rangers seeing him. He had a strangely
painted face and a breast-like pouch on his chest
which he claimed contained explosives for his
self-immolation. At the time, I discounted it all as a
self-indulgent ego trip. So I confess that when I saw
him up there, it took just a moment to put two and two
together--but the flash of flame from the lighter did
it.
And weren't the exquisitely choreographed fireworks
and the magic of the real burn a thousand times better
than amateur arson?
After posting this on the Hushville list, I heard from others who know him and call him an "attention whore." Before going out to the Man, he had been ranting in the Earth Guardians bar, where he put on his face paint. I guess I unknowingly did him a favor by turning him in, because had he escaped, he wouldn't have received the attention he craved.
And by the way, it's totally a lie that he had ensured safety by "clearing the area." Excuse me, but he had talked to me, and I was standing right underneath the awning, as were others, and had it caught fire, we would have been in considerable danger.
Another friend of his has written as follows:
"For those that wish to know, Paul is suffering from a breakdown.
Friends of mine in SF say that he's become increasingly erratic. He
had planned on moving here to Portland and I was considering renting
him the house that I'm building, but Cupcake said NO and that was
that. His neighbors at his longtime address in the city have taken
out restraining orders and he can't even go home to pack.... Also don't
be to quick to lay this off on drugs--manic was always his mental
state."

i support paul in his decision to burn a church. Yes Indeedy, i think the episcopal church is CRYING OUT to be shaken and stirred, i mean, god knows they're uptight as hell...
it reminds me of the good old tymie days on the playa...Yessir.....
hell, i may have even torched a synagogue on my way one year, i dont know, i was too cranked up on government prescribed amphetamines to notice.
yup.
I think that it's ends that justify the means, and even violence is ok if you want to make a VERY IMPORTANT AND CRUCIAL, WORLD CHANGING POINT.....like toasting the man early....ranks right up there with martin luther and his 99 feces, oops, i mean theses.
he was a PROTESTANT too, huh....as i come full circle to the episcopalians, who sorta are protestants, but different....
anyways, lets not shoot the messenger just because he's a lunatic.
Burning Man, Burning Church, i wonder what was next....
Burning Bush?
i'm so sorry, now i have to go have my tongue surgically removed from my ass-cheek.

He would appear to be a wanker who gets off on anti-social activism and paints himself in the role of the enlightened iconoclast-martyr-cum-saviour.
Fortunately for him, the judges in California have almost as good of a sense of humour as their counterparts in Nevada about this sort of thing as well as sharing in their excellent taste for—and broad definition of—art. I am sure that things will work out great for Paul.
I wonder how it might feel for him to make Burningman themed liscense plates in prison? A guy would have to be pretty thick not to be able to enjoy the irony
