Post by phil » Mon Nov 05, 2007 9:33 am

We all know about those tricked out dekotora Japanese big rigs, right?

Well, here's a dekotora Segway to dream about taking to Burning Man:

Decorated Truck. Man, I remember those. I didn't see 'em much out in the boonies near Yokosuka, but we'd spot them if we drove up to Tokyo instead of taking the train.

I'm in Utah now, but I spent 12 years in Yokosuka, split into a 3 year stint and a 9 year stay. Still don't speak Japanese worth a damn.

I'd love to know more about the wheels on stomach thing, might serve some of my own mobility needs.

But if you want Alpine Thrill Sports, you don't get more thrilling than Fighten with the Vienna Waltz train.

Tho with as much as that cat hangs out in the oncoming lane of traffic, I'd have to say he runs a real close second. Or will.

Maybe his steering will be better without legs.

*aside--still on for today, Sue*

Great sound track, by the way: "Ichiban-boshi Blues" by Bunta Sugawara and Kinya Aikawa.

Boy, does THAT give me ideas!

....I think I must be living in the midwest as part of someone's subtle scheme to prevent me from making hundreds of weird, glowing vehicles- This climate kills all but the hardiest conveyances, and the average "Michigan Art Car" is a pickup done in Mossy Oak Breakup.

Speaking of sequencers, I _love_ this video:

This is the fastest five and a half minutes ever.

I'll be trying to buy tickets to see Blue Man Group in Vegas in May. (Louise and I saw them off Broadway their first year - _really_ knocked our socks off, and it looks like franchising hasn't hurt them at all.)

But - I want her dress for the playa. I know it's EL wire and sequencers, but how do I set that up? Where do I get sequencers? Etc.

Other versions of "I Feel Love":

(Bronski Beat. Described as the gayest record ever made.)

(The original by Donna Summer)

(Cover by Blondie - audio only; suxors for the first minute; roxors with guitar for an interesting different take on the song)

There's another sequence with some AWESOME EL suits (and little head-spotlights!) that I just saw in "Inside The Tube", a BMG video that I caught part of on PBS. Really, really cool. I had the treat of catching their show at their old basecamp, Briar Street Theater in Chicago, and have loved them ever since. After studying the dress in the "The Complex" piece, I almost wonder if its sequencing is remotely operated so as to synch with the band...Tell you one thing, though- It takes a shitload of EL to cover a surface like that! I'm still waiting for EL panels to become affordable for covering large areas, or contrasting colorfields for behind wire...Electrotartan!!

Wow! I didn't know that BMG was that entertaining to watch. That's the first time I've actually seen a performance other than those old Intel commercials.

As far as that dress goes it is definitely some sort of computer controlled sequencer (as opposed to simply reacting to the sound). At first I thought it was just sound controlled but when the lights started going up and down I knew that it had to be computer controlled. Very cool dress for the playa and it gives me some cool ideas for next years costumes.

I guess we have learned not to judge anyone based on their Intel commercials. :P
