I can't believe this thread even took off.
I put it this way. Free your feet, your mind will follow.
I own three pairs of Tevas and absolutely love them.
If anything I don't understand why someone would want to bind up their feet and keep them hidden under layers of leather and cotton when it feels so damn good to get them out in the air....
Perhaps someone's got a foot fetish and the anti-Teva rant is his Puritanical mindset lashing out to protect him so he doesn't succumb to what he knows he wants to do. Heck, come to think of it I bet you're the type that has ordered the Teva paper catalog and has the pages dogeared from so much use...it's like looking at the SI swimsuit issue. I wonder if there's a secret image stash of sandal porn lurking on someone's hard drive...yep..it's all a cover for a super serious foot fetish.
(Ok, that was one hell of a tangent, indulge me here...cause it was sure fun to type that out!)

actually, i'm toemophobic.....
i like women's toes, most of them i suppose, but if you stick some big hairy bull dyke toes in front of me, i would probably say different.
It's MENS TOES that bug me out....NASTY......and they smell like Jail.
especially my cousins', that are almost prehensile in nature...he can write with them, change a spark plug, and they're HAIRY and GNARLY and look like little flesh covered irregular vienna franks.
and teva's are the broken dildos of the world......useless and unsightly and probably made in china by more people with sandals on.
so, with that in mind, i'm going to go put my yams in a nice pair of scratchy, itchy wool socks and tightly bind them in my steel toe coffins i call boots.
and if you see me out on the playa, keep those fucking things away from me, i dont want to catch Toelio.

i'm sorry to just single out tevas....
Flip Flops are a sure sign that you are a moron.
i have seen flip flops on people riding MOTORCYLES, SHOVELING SNOW, FORK LIFT OPERATING, even yes, and i shit you not, COOKING!
OMFG.
as soon as i saw the chef i was working with in flip flops, i FREAKED and my reflexive mumbly peg reaction hit and ZOOP, he lost the little piggy on the end....

After reading that last post you just described what I do with 'em except for the forklift operating. Substitute farm tractor for forklift since I'm now exiled to somewhere in the great plains that shall not be named.
We had freezing rain then snow where I'm at and when I had to take out the trash or move the generator around I didn't bother with boots. I put on the Tevas and took off. They gripped better on the ice than almost any footwear I have in the closet.
As for the history of Tevas, if you spend any time in the water say doing paddlesports, Tevas are a godsend. Gimme that spider rubber and I rarely have problems moving around on the rocks. That's what they were designed for and for many months of the year that's what I do as much as I can. So when I have to put on regular shoes I usually whine about it. Regular shoes suck donkey balls IMHO.
And as for the smell...well you're just not in the water enough to have nature take care of that problem.
But when it comes to flip-flops...there's never been a more worthless shoe design. Flip flops are an abomination. Strap 'em or scrap 'em...give me my Tevas with the universal strapping system and I'm good.

I happen to like my red stars, thank you very much. I have this black dogtag with a single red star necklace that's one of my favorites, I have the red star on my jacket, and I have one on my keychain.Simon of the Playa wrote:commie.
only commies wear sandals.
check where those Teva's are MADE!
china.....by commies.
That being said....there is this:
http://www.flagteaparty.org/Publication ... China.html
Just because a product took advantage of globalization doesn't mean I should no longer support it. If I stayed with exclusively "Made in the USA" stuff my quality of life would be seriously diminished from what it is now...and I refuse to do that. Heck before I spun off my last project I investigated then shifted production to China cutting almost 68% off manufacturing costs even with shipping being factored in...I tried to get it made here by taking advantage of both economically depressed rural areas and inner city redevelopment options that are always claiming we need jobs and have all these incentives...and yet it turned out to be the biggest stinking, steaming pile of bullshit I've run across. You really don't want to go down this road with me cause you won't like my answers.
Also while I'm on the soapbox....ask me sometime about the quality of imported Chinese premium furniture vs. LaCrosse furniture made in rural Kansas right here in the good old USA that is so fucking fragile it splinters into matchsticks when you lift it up to take it out of the house and put it in a Penske truck to move. 3 pieces of furniture that good money was spent on are total fucking pieces of shit...and what's worse is they had to be special ordered in while the dumbasses over here took forever to complete them....meanwhile the imported furniture my girlfriend bought was actually special ordered and arrived via cargo container through the congested Port of Long Beach and shippped on backed up Union Pacific and it still got here 44 days ahead of when the good old Made in the USA stuff did. And that's just my warm up discussion points. There's a metric fuckton more where that come from....
