Dang! It's my day to stumble across stuff. This PC is held out to be useable in wet and dirty industrial environments.

If you need a system to run ande be used over the whole week and you don't want to be protective of it, use a Panasonic Toughbook. One of those took an ak47 round in iraq and is still running (it did need a new screen, tho). they're also dust and water resistant (resistant, not proof)

I'm given to understand that the design goals for the OLPC were such that it would probably survive quite nicely on the playa.
