RESEARCH ASSISTANCE NEEDED

Post by Evil Randy » Fri Dec 07, 2007 3:06 pm

Greetings!

I am doing graduate work on Ritual Theory at the University of Chicago and I was hoping somebody could help me find materials that have circulated at past events, such as old copies of Piss Clear and camp directories, event listings, etc. Anything would be extremely helpful.

Thank you!

I dunno folks... Do we want to flame/torture him first?

Randy,

If we told you then we'd have to kill you...

Old copies of Piss Clear are out there. But they won't make sense to people who haven't gone to BM. (Myself included)

Look harder.
Okay, so ten out of ten for style, but minus several million for good thinking, yeah?

Piss Clear is available on line. Eric probably posts the link most often. Try the search function.

Crypto you're being so nice to him...

http://www.pissclear.org/
has the archive.

Is that all you wanted or are there more specific questions you had?

As long as it doesn't involve touching my toes,
I'll try anything once...............once.

WTF? At the top of every eplaya page is a set of links: Watched Topics, FAQ, and oh yeah, one titled "Search". It leads to an easy to use form that can help you answer your questions quickly and efficiently. One can find the Piss Clear stuff in less than 5 minutes which is quicker than waiting on replies from everyone else.

Each time I see requests asking for people to do someone's research when I had to spend my time in the library digging for stuff on my own, I find myself wanting to plant a size 14 boot right up their ass.

Preach on V, preach on.
The one that gets me all burred up is asking
about bringing kids to the playa.

or newbies asking about what to bring - I know they are new, but there are at leaset a billion pages, and links - some with interactive PDF pages with fill in forms for rookies to plan.

Thanks for your help! I was right in the middle of finals and didn't have alot of time to explore the site looking for links, and I'm not too keen on electronic resources anyway. Thanks to your kindness, I now have all the resources I need, unless anyone thinks a trip to the Burning Man office would be fruitful. I should be in CA during December and might make the trip if the office is open and welcoming. I really appreciate your help regardless, and I hope you all have a great Burn next year!

By the way, I love the reference to the archives as an exoteric text only to be understood by the initiated. Good stuff! AND I WILL experiment on you if you run into me, AND IT WILL involve your toes MORE THAN ONCE!

Love you guys!

Make sure you dress up before showing up to the ORG offices. They tend to be fond of pirates, ninjas, and folks with brown paper bags over the head. People dressed too normal get asked to leave. Also make sure you bring a very big hat, the bigger the better.

Yeah, what Toolmaker said.
My sources told me that December is officially brown paper bag over the head month,
in fact, if you just wear the bag and stand across the street
in front of the offices, Larry will come out to give a personal tour of the place.

If you're JUST wearing the bag, does that make you a Bagcocker? Hatcocker? JoeCocker? Hmmm.

I've been to the Burn 6 times, and I am really looking forward to the next one. In doing my research, I've fallen in love with the event all over again, in a big way. I was reduced to sobs by the documentary, which I have been watching daily in preparation for the writing of this essay I am working on. It's also the first time I'm mulling over some larger scale art. I started building last year, but this year I want to do something better.

I'm still looking for suggestions, by the way. I've found that Victor Turner's theory doesn't hold water, and I am hunting down Grimes' book on ritualization. I'm working a little with Gluckman's "permitted rebellion" ideas, and also drawing upon Bourdieu's theories of habitus and adaptation. If anyone out there has found a good peice of theoretical discourse that they think would lend weight to this discussion, I'd love to hear it. AND NOT because I'm lazy...I'm in the library ten hours a day. I have found that suggestions often steer me in a direction I could not have found on my own.
