Hi there, my name is Ray'Chel and I'm a newbie burner. Or, well, I plan on being one. I'm enthralled, intimidated, and excited to go to Burning Man for the first time. Currently me and my friend are making lists, preparing supplies and money and transportation. Eight months seems like a long time and not enough at the same time. I'm here to use this forum as a way to get information and maybe meet some Northwest newbies and burners alike going this year.

So hi everyone! Pleased to meet you and I hope to learn much while I visit these boards.

~Ray'Chel (but please, you may call me Boomer)

Hi Boomer!!

Welcome Home...

It is terribly exciting, the time leading up to your first burn. So good to see the new faces around these parts. Hang around and get to know the place. Lots of good information here and if after, all your digging, you still have questions (and you will), then don't hesitate to ask them. There's plenty of good folk around this board.

Wow, cool. And I'm pretty jaded, Marc. I'm also the sort of wiseass who's going to have trouble calling you "goth" but don't stress, please.

Aloha fellow burners!
I hail from London, England.
2007 was my first year.. I went with my girlfriend and 4 other mates in an RV.
2008 I hope to bring big plans, more friends and a greater contribution to playa shenanigans.

Will that do for an intro?

Welcome DaddyMassive, Sikkensk8t, goth and everyone, welcome to e-playa. This is a great place to pick up useful information, more opposing opinions than you’ve ever cared to hear and sometimes down right misinformation. I’m one who sees the community aspects of Burning Man as probably the most important part of it. People from around the world, conservatives, progressives, scientists, artists, waiters, insurance salesmen, rich and not so well off, all with that,... something ,..that says to them these are my people.

Eplaya can be a place to get to know others like yourself,.. you know different. The more connections you have the richer experience the event tends to be, and that can carry out into the rest of your life. welcome!

I am having a hard time coming up with ideas for a Mutant Vehicle and being good with my hands I can bring most anything to life. Any Ideas?

My advice, don't build a mutant vehicle for your first year. Just concentrate on getting yourself there with all your shit. A decent mutant vehicle is a commitment which takes time, money and lots of effort (not to mention the hassle of getting it to the playa).

Here's a shot of our mutant vehicle which died on us by Thursday because the air cleaner fell off. We got it from craigslist and we had to rebuild the engine before we got to BM.

Image

We got a three wheeler ATV for 08' though we haven't actually started making it mutant yet. We are still kicking around ideas ourselves.

I'm Erin. I'm really glad I started reading up about BM in the dead of winter so I can have 8 months to truly prepare myself and be ridiculously excited about going for the first time.

Any advice for the absolute BEST way to get there (in terms of economy and memorability) for a newbie from Michigan who owns a car that probably couldn't make it to Nevada?

Known as Mapletoast I have always been curious about Burning Man, though never extended my interest until recently. A long lost friend of mine can often be found there. I love to be creative and work well with others. I teach young children how to express themselves through art and words. I really like strange and unusual art with a dark theme to it. When visiting Mexico, specifically Tulum, I fell in love with an artist who makes twisted block prints of Alice - Alicia. I have no idea how to become apart of this fantastic event so I may need some guidance. Though I feel very excited to become a part of something so intriguing. Enough about me! :)

Hey everybody.

Name's Tim and it's looking like a great possibility that I'll be finding my way to Burning Man this year.

I mentioned it to my sister (who's just starting college in Prescott, AZ). She's into all sorts of stuff like this and surprisingly, had never heard of Burning Man! Now she's looked into it a bit and is really interested in going. I've had an interest in it, but never anything more than "that would be cool to do sometime" sort of thing, but this looks like the opportunity to take part.

I live in Pennsylvania in the heart of Amish Country. I graduated this year from school for Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management. I'm 23.

I've got a bunch of questions which I'll be using these forums to have answered, I'm sure. If everything goes well, I'll see you all in August!

Every Day is Burning Man

Post by Maxine the Beauty Queen » Tue Jan 01, 2008 1:48 pm

I'm an old-timey burner who can't make it out to the playa these days, so I've come to live vicariously through you all. Mostly a wisenheimer, I also dabble in high jinks, low jinks, and even some rabble-rousing (weather permitting, of course).

There are definitely aerialists out there.
I have heard of rigging out there but I haven't seen it.

newbie here 2

Post by m_cat » Sat Jan 05, 2008 5:34 pm

Coming in from Seattle. I've been trying to get there for years, but better late than never. I apparently have woosie friends, though, who won't make the journey, and I was hoping someone could let me know if there's a way to hook up with a camp if i end up going by myself. Is there a posting area for orphan burners looking for adoptive camps?

Welcome, M_cat....

check the Regional burners on the main page to link up with people in your area before the event. Also, read the Survival Guide (more than once).... You will need to know how to prepare yourself for the desert environment.

There are many threads here also with tips and ideas.... so, have fun looking around........ If ya have questions, just ask.........

Welcome home Maseo!

Music is a big topic of discussion here. There are several people on the eplaya that seem to breath music.

If you really want to meet people take a dip in the Open Discussion, but watch out, sharks patrol those waters!

I don't know what instruments you play, but I do know that the playa can be hell on them. Do some research and maybe don't take your best guitar (or whatever).
