D is what I thought the romans did with the same derivation. (And testes sounds much more latin than hebrew.)

You're welcome, K. I just had to share.

I think the biblical version in Genesis is to place one's hand "under his thigh." But as one of the male Israelites' covenants with God was circumcision, placing one's hand on this sacred symbol was as good as...well, putting your hand on the bible to take an oath. :?

Perhaps if you were to learn American Sign Language, it would be easier (not to mention more effective) to get your point across.

oneeyeddick wrote:Before the days of notary publics, how did a man swear to a statement?

A. Trick question. There have been notary publics since the inception
of the Jewish race.
B. They simply swore to God they were telling the truth.
C. They proclaimed that, if they were being dishonest, their wives
were fair game for other members of the community.
D. They simply grabbed another man’s genitals.

I am going with B. on this. I think they just took your word, because (my guess is that) people where actually scared of God back then, so they didn't go throwing his name around so freely without propose.

Also we need more Zombie Jesus in 2008.

Good response, everyone.
And thanks for that Mayavin/Fire elf, maybe you aren't as gone as I suspected.
BTW, I already seen you in a posing posture of trancendence preclusive.

Congratulations Nick and FISHY, D is absolutely correct.
And nice reference for the "teste-mony" aspect, too .

Correct Answer: D (They simply grabbed another man’s genitals.)
“And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee,
thy hand under my thigh: And I will make thee swear by the Lord, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth,
that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canannites, among whom I dwell…
And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and sware to him concerning that matterâ€

The Lord placed two types of people on this, His only planet that matters:

(1) Those who critically analyze and evaluate all available information, making decisions,
including those involving their belief systems, based on thought, facts and reason; and
(2) Folks who have been blessedly spared such tedium -- Christians.

The next question is kinda tricky, so choose carefully.

How does Jesus feel about science?

A. Jesus is silent on the subject, for science is a wordly thing and the New Testament focuses on spirituality.
B. Science is silly, vain and profane, and is at odds with Christianity.
C. Jesus expressly acknowledged that science and the Bible go hand in hand,
for science reveals God’s masterful work in the universe -- and since the Bible is without error,
there is nothing to be feared from investigation of natural phenomena.
D. Scientists are considered the holiest of men, for they seek to understand God's design.
We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.

Damn. It's hard to think that the NT has anything to say on "Science" as the word and most likely the concept wasn't coined until 1500+ years later.

I'd go with A, except that the reason behind it is too recursive for me to believe that it's in the NT in that form.

C and D seem to be essentially the same thing, except for that Bible is without errror stuff, which again seems to be something that was tacked on later by church fathers.

So my guess is D.

Although, it could be B, again with very different verbiage in the original.

C and D.

I am a scientist.. I have degrees in Biochemistry, Psychology and Master's in Nutrition.

Plus I what others call Christian, although I just try to do what Jesus says. (not WWJD, but DWJS (do what Jesus says)).. Wonder why so many people get that one wrong.

One-eye: Am I two people in one?

Besides there are two kind of people on earth
First kind puts people into two catagories, the other doesn't.

But I'm not getting the "Cereal Boxes" comment...

Biochemistry, Psychology and Nutrition What Cereal companies use to design a product that will sell. Biochemistry & Psychology being the two main components. Nutrition always seemed like "Advertising" for the front of the box.

erri, thank you.. I see it now.. yes, I don't like what others have done either.

I am a "eat whole foods" not product nutritionist. But I can't stop the corps from doing what they are doing until I get my JD (two more years). It is one of the reasons I am going to law school. To fight corps.

Simon, it's a "Christian" law school with the highest passing rates of any on-line school and surpasses most ABA schools as well.

Oak Brook College of Law

It's on the CA Bar webpage under "distance learning."

The tution is only $3500 per year and the curriculum is great. Lots of Bible reading.
