Donna Matrix's Bible Trivia Question O' the Day !!!
So here is the story about the hawk take it, as you want. I make no apologies for it. And it is all true. Whatever here goes nothing.BitterDan wrote:"If a faithful account was rendered of Man's ideas upon Divinity, he would be obliged to acknowledge, that for the most part the word "gods" has been used to express the concealed, remote, unknown causes of the effects he witnessed; that he applies this term when the spring of the natural, the source of known causes ceases to be visible: as soon as he loses the thread of these causes, or as soon as his mind can no longer follow the chain, he solves the difficulty, terminates his research, by ascribing it to his gods...When, therefore, he ascribes to his gods the production of some phenomenon...does he, in fact, do anything more than substitute for the darkness of his own mind, a sound to which he has been accustomed to listen with reverential awe?" -- Paul Heinrich Dietrich, Baron von Holbach, Systéme de la Nature, London, 1770
So I am sitting in my backyard reliving some pretty freaky weird bad shit that has happened to me over my life. Things I had no control over, really weird psycho stuff that my father forced me to be involved in, like the day I was brought to a children’s hospital in Cleveland and where I was held down by what I remember to be at least six orderlies and given a spinal tap, I was ten, pretty traumatic stuff. I still have no idea why this happened. My mother won’t tell me.
This is factual.
My theory is that when my father was in medical school they needed a control sample so he volunteered me for science. This is a guess. I will never really know, I am juts trying to find ways to deal with it. I have a very weird life story.
So I am staring into the sky crying so hard I think my head is going to explode when I see a hawk that was flying in the distance. I remembered what a friend said once; hawks are good luck.
So I said aloud. “God please. If everything is going to be OK let that hawk land on my fence,â€

A rational person would think it was coincidence. Not even so much coincidence as probability. Hawks perch on fences, light poles, telephone lines, etc. They don't do this because "God" told them to, they do it so they can see their prey.If the hawk landing was coincidence so fucking what. I do what I need to do to get through the day.
A faithful person would think it was divine intervention.
When it comes down to it, you believe whatever you want to believe. But don't tell me to fuck off just because I choose to think rationally.

erri, I love the story...
Birds of Prey are always a good sign.
I would love to hear more about your life story. The hospital thing is just plain scary. What a memory to have and why your parents won't tell you what was up with it... I hope they tell you. Knowing can't be as bad as not knowing.

The thing is that erri asked and he received. For that he is thankful. I don't think rational or faith have anything to do with.BitterDan wrote:A rational person would think it was coincidence. pardon my tangent,
but i feel i may be askance from the general populace in regards to my perceptions of bibliomania...
having been born the third day of january @ 3:11 am, every time i've heard any variation of rising on the third day, my spidey sense goes 'wang'
not to be glib, or mean, but a bible student has been advising that one must look to the most probable,
while during the event, if taken as other than wholly imaginary, the very courses of action of the protagonist would fall well outside the vogue of probable
could that not have been the very point?

C is the right answer.
Although I think I see mayavin point. -> the one that's involved is too close to see what is happening <-
But then again, unless someone is know by someone else, can that someone else tell you anything real about that person?
The apostate maybe able to tell you what they knew... but since they don't believe anymore their information is dated..
The agnostic doesn't believe so therefore doesn't have any first hand knowledge
The archimage thinks he knows the underlying power without knowing the person.
Um............

I had a feeling I was right the first time and I was thinking about the question too much.
Usually in a trivia game, aren't you supposed to be looking for the unexpected answer or is that just my own consideration?

Okay, so ten out of ten for style, but minus several million for good thinking, yeah?

OK, as you have stated yourself many times, this is not a Bible question.Donna Matrix wrote:Donna Matrix wrote:I've got a question for everyone:
Who is qualified to speak about Jesus?
A. an apostate
B. an agnostic
C. an adherent
D. an archimage
This is more of a opinionated than imformed multiple choice attempt to derail this
True Bible trivia thread with more incessant ramblings of your "personal" belief codes
and such other nonsence about following what Jesus said and not what the Bible says.
The Lord's laws are in Leviticus, and you should read them a few times before
you stick your possibly web-toed foot into your mouth any farther. Praise Jesus !!!
And as for those of you who claim to believe in God but not in his Son
or his Holiest of Ghosties, well then you obviously are Jewish in decent.
My answer would be B. an Agnostic.
But then you said
" The agnostic doesn't believe so therefore doesn't have any first hand knowledge "
I think you meant athiest, as most agnostics have belief in one God , just not your one God.
Besides..... anyone can talk about Jesus, even Athiests have reasons for being that way.

Oneeye,
Wasn't your last question something about a lion?
Care to reiterate so we can get back on track?
Donna, remember, trivia is trivial. Don't let anyone bake your mustard seed but you.
From Merriam-Websters:
Main Entry: triv·ia
Function: noun plural but singular or plural in construction
Etymology: New Latin, back-formation from Latin trivialis
Date: 1920
: unimportant matters : trivial facts or details; also singular in construction : a quizzing game involving obscure facts

Thank You Mereth, and yes, two pages ago I poised this question :
What do God and a lion have in common?
A. Roaring.
B. Ripping people to bloody shreds.
C. Devouring humans slowly, savoring every bite.
D. All of the above.
So far, only Mousey Mouse has chosen an answer, that being "A".

It comes down to this - calculate the odds. Doesn't have to be exactly accurate. Just a wild approximation will do. In this case what do you think the odds might be of asking for a very specific sign to help you through a rough patch when the meaning of reality may have been in question (or whatever angst Erri felt at that moment - a crux point of belief.) Then.... a hawk - which, yes are known to hang out on poles and fences, but rarely like to hang out very near people especially when they're making noise - decides to land right there. I'm guessing somewhere in the neighborhood of a million to one (if the hawk was within 60 feet and so forth for calculations...)
Then you tie in the aspect of context. What was needed by Erri right then? Did it work?
These things happen to me on such a regular basis that I start to trivialize them.
Yeah. Thats just the way things are...
But in the back of my mind I still calculate the odds. But I also consider the possibility that I might be selectively tuning into events which only support a particular outlook, etc.
Eventually I have to conclude that non-localized mind and consciousness is intrinsic to the structure of the universe. Synchronicities, freak occurences, spontaneous altered states, altered time sense.... on and on.
Kind of like going insane, but I still get to keep my day job. sort of...
None of this means that I have to buy into any of the dogma which Donna finds so precious.
OK. back to the quiz.
I'll take A for 200.
I can't see the blatant ripping and rending somehow.
For the hell of it I decided to just let the Gideon's just fall open where it may. This will have to be my reference:
"I will surely consume them" says the Lord.....
The snorting of His horses was heard from Dan.
Jeremiah 8:13,16
(no shit. It actually fell open right there. Praise Jesus!!!)

The question was....
What do God and a lion have in common?
Correct Answer: D (All of the above.)
“They shall walk after the Lord: he shall roar like a lion: when he shall roar,
then the children shall tremble from the westâ€
