Black, Asian, Mexican Burners and colors of religion or not.
This is in relation to this thread:
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... highlight=
Only because this topic has come up before a few years ago:
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=3989
And I feel then as it is now, a really silly thing.
I don’t understand why it is so important what color or religion one is, in order to participate at Burningman.
Why not have "Camp Mexican" with only Mexicans?
Why not have "Camp Palestine" with Palestinians only?
How about "Black camp" (though I believe that has been done before, only, not for the reasons I describe here).
Hey, these camps really wouldn’t be just for those ethnicities, everyone would really be welcomed. I’m sure anyone that wasn’t anyone of these ethnics would feel totally comfortable don’t you?
Personally speaking, I could give 2 flying fucks what ones color or religion was, just as long as they came with some substance and didn't force the shit on me.
As it is now, I feel like it's being forced on me. True, I don’t have to read the threads and I don’t. But there is no way the title of the threads is not going to offend me.
I would just create "camp diversity" but I always thought BM was diverse enough. I guess it's all about “exclusivityâ€

Oh dear, are we reading really stale threads about camp isreal, or whatever it called itself. Can't we let sleeping dogs (especially really nasty ones like that) lie?

I mean it's not like you see me posting:
"Hi, I'm a Black Burner and I would love to get together and camp with other black burners this year"
Nope, I'd camp with whomever was seeming like they were gonna be the most fun first.
Wouldn't make a diffrence to me what color or religion they were.
Feet or no feet.

I see Religious choice as just another way people group themselves, just like people who are all in wheelchairs or who all like S+M or who enjoy martinis. Or who really like boobies
You may not belive this, but I would be okay for the whole Scientology thread to die a happy death. I would just rather have it end on a happy note (as it did at one point with the Common Ground postcard), than one of unanswered accusation.
As far as Donna's thread, that was started by OED and Donna's been valiantly being (unfortunately) the sole (near as I can tell) representative of her particular belief system.
As it stands, I wasn't planning on bringing up my religion - in fact I didn't.
As it stands, I am however going to practice tolerance. And with that in mind, here's the two applicable BM principles with particular attention to the last line of the 2nd principle.
Radical Inclusion
Anyone may be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect the stranger. No prerequisites exist for participation in our community.
Radical Self-expression
Radical self-expression arises from the unique gifts of the individual. No one other than the individual or a collaborating group can determine its content. It is offered as a gift to others. In this spirit, the giver should respect the rights and liberties of the recipient.
That's what I plan on doing (although I'll likely camp in the walk-in area for my first year).Nope, I'd camp with whomever was seeming like they were gonna be the most fun first.

Okay, so ten out of ten for style, but minus several million for good thinking, yeah?

Sounds fair enough to me.
I gotta tell ya though, I kinda liked how you started out with the:
"I see Religious choice as just another way people group themselves, just like people who are all in wheelchairs or who all like S+M or who enjoy martinis. Or who really like boobies"
Touche`!

Yeah, would a woman who had a painful mastectomy enjoy herself at the Booby Bar?
Possibly not, but a true Burner under those circumstances (or at least what I think of as a true Burner, having never gone yet) would show off the scars and invite someone to maybe do a body paint job that accentuates the lack of breast or at least having the painting pattern play with the pattern that the scar tissue created to accentuate her other womanly features. And participate in Critical Tits.

It's not just about creating a "Camp People Just Like Me" - it's also about sharing experiences offline, maybe meeting up on the playa, and just in general trying to feel less alone in your whateveritis-ness.
For all the talk of radical inclusion, certain things are looked down upon (such as certain religions) and some groups are even more of a minority out there than they might be at home. I don't see a problem with someone looking for a little support from someone in their group or with them trying to express themselves.

I showed everyone who'd hold still for two seconds my fresh lumpectomy scar in 2004. And I do mean fresh, the brachytherapy tubes came out on a Friday and I got in a car to head to the playa on a Sunday. I'd have loved the Booby Bar! While I've met up with other survivors and patients on the playa, I've never had the desire to camp with them based on BC.
You do get a lot of ex-mormons camping together, but that's because we find each other behind the Zion Curtain and form bonds pre-playa. No mormon like an ex-mormon! I don't know if there are any practicing mormons in the Utah burners group, honestly I think every one of us who had anything to do with the LDS religion gave it up. That'd be interesting to check out.
That would be interesting to survey... Can you do an anonymous, just-out-of-curiosity poll on Tribe?
My point was that in order to be a real burner (again, IMHO) you need to stop LOOKING at how you could be offended and instead LOOK at how to out-create your consideration and have fun with it, (in a non-derogatory fashion preferably), instead!
Am I asking too much?

Honey, Pinemom, proprietess of the Booby Bar has had two breast cancer scares and members of her family have had the real deal. "Fuck Cancer" is one of the Booby Bar's cries, and if you go back to where she and TITWI first announced the domes, it was explicit that one of the issues of the Booby Bar was breast cancer. Just like if I opened a place called the Footstool.mereth wrote:Yeah, would a woman who had a painful mastectomy enjoy herself at the Booby Bar?

All these systems of belief that are designed to keep us separated are the problem. I feel there is no answer, so I could care less about those that follow closed minded religions. I do think that there needs to be a line drawn when it comes to radical inclusion. I don't think radical inclusion should be interpreted to include those that wish our community harm, those that wish to exploit our citizenry, those that believe we should be killed via stoning because of the way some were born. The reason I don't follow organized religions is because they are just too hate filled. I find that the ignore function on eplaya works good when you get someone that just posts too much hate. I have Simon on ignore and my days are a lil brighter, Donna will probably be next to be plonked since we are all Satanists is her eyes. I really don't have time for those folks who just don't have a clue about what our community is about. I don't even bother trying to argue or debate those opposed to the principles of burningman. They are so programmed with the misconceptions that we are Satanists or Cultists that there is no hope for them being enlightened.

I wrote a song just on that very thing many many years ago.
Not doing a shameless plug (again) but...........

Make sure you have decent speakers hooked up. It's in surround sound 5.1.
(hey, that's my first time using the new youtube feature and it works. YAAAAAY!)

Sorry, I meant to include saying "and had no sense of humor about it" but I thought that was implied. Oh well...theCryptofishist wrote:Honey, Pinemom, proprietess of the Booby Bar has had two breast cancer scares and members of her family have had the real deal. My point was that under the right set of circumstances and awkward bass-ackward considerations, someone could be offended at just about any group.
What needs to be done is to have a sense of tolerance and if you don't like it, go and/or do something else!

I just had to post Euni from tribe here. She is too funny.

"When picking up on Asian women, always:
1. Begin with "Konichiwa" or "Moshi Moshi" - Don't worry: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Hmong, Laotian, Thai, Filipino, etc. - it's all the same.
2. Ask if she is related to Lucy Liu. Bonus points if you ask about Chow Yun Fat or Jackie Chan. Subtract points if you ask about Ang Lee - he's too cultured.
3. Rave about her passivity and subservience. Ask for a full tea service and massage. Inquire about happy endings and if she will love you long time.
4. Measure her feet and see if they fit in a teacup. Call her a low-class peasant if they don't.
5. Critique her latest appearance on the Internet. Tell her the skimpier the school girl uniform, the better. If she looks confused, it was probably her sister. "
