Pyramid Lake Camping

Post by gyre » Fri Jan 04, 2008 1:27 pm

I saw something about permits being discontinued and I can't find it now.
As usual, my searches pull up thousands of unrelated topics!!!!!!

Does anyone know where this was posted?

I cant find anything on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe web site regarding discontinuing camping permits. Frankly, I don't see them doing that since a considerable amount of the tribe income comes from those permits. According to the PLPT site, camping fees are $9 per night.

Someone posted an address because they were considering dropping permits due to problems.
Maybe they decided not to.
Does anyone know for sure?

The suspension of permits is related to the back side (eastern portion) of Pyramid Lake. That'd be the shore line area closest to the large tufa formation from which the lake gets its name. The suspension is still in effect according to a Gigsville person I met who is also a Paiute cop.

And yes, it has everything to do with reckless disregard for the area which the native folks still see as sacred regardless of what the spray painting campers thought who desecrated the area in question.

Listening to the waves and looking at that blue water after two weeks in the dust is incredibly relaxing.

Pyramid Lake Camping

I work for the Tribe, and it is definitely closed and will remain so for camping on the eastern side of the lake, which includes the Pyramid. However, that side IS open to Day Use, and the western side is open to camping in designated areas. Please respect the land and don't leave any MOOP for the Tribe to clean up!

Thanks,

Bear

Thanks.
Looking at the map, I always thought the lake would be nice to camp next to, but when you get close to the water it is much more beautiful than I would have imagined.

I'm afraid some new burners don't get the 'Pick up your trash thing.' even at the burn, but it's not for lack of trying.
I'm afraid burning man has it's own tourist problems now.

I wouldn't mind spending a week by the lake if I could.

My father goes fishing up there all the time, and we camp up there all the time. They would have told him if they were stopping permits!

And if they do tell him, I will let you know!
