Rabbi, the source is Ecology auto wrecking in Norwalk on Imperial. It's a typical pick-your-part except that they wreck out big trucks. Waste Management has been forced by CARB to scrap out a bunch of good trucks. Being as how they are a big company, the trucks are brought into the yard with practicly new tires and batts.
I haven't checked the price of batts, but it should be cheap. I'm going to try to go tomorrow,,, weather permitting. I have a battery analyser to check them.
They also sell engines and trans real cheap. $1,000 for a Cummins engine and $300 for an Allison trans. Most of the stuff is relatively low mileage.

Sorry, no JPGs. The trailer was a <28> ft RV trailer. Everything was cleaned off except the floor. So, it's a Zieman chassis with some floor left. Zieman makes a great chassis and it also has 4 wheel electric brakes. I couldn't see sending it to scrap metal. I'm planning on building another log house,,, this time in western Oregon. I'll need a long-log trailer. The whole thing will stash very nicely behind a couple of bushes,,,it's very low. I thought you might get some use out of it as a base or platfrom,,, to get stuff off the ground.

I'll bring a bike but I'm still recuperating from a shattered heel, broken foot and broken ankle. I'm a flatland rider. Do you have any extra rebar stakes and some stiff wire/cable?
I was going to pull out early. What time do you plan to arrive?

Well Rabbi, I suppose that we passed in opposite directions on the freeway. The trailer might be a good place to stack your junk. I'll try to make it back out but it's not likely. I really need to get an eye operation. My driving is not safe. I rode the bike around the desert for a couple of hours. I like a desert without cactus,,, good on tires.
Are you ready for the big boom in your area? Do a search on "China Lake" + geothermal. They claim that there is enough geothermal energy under your area to produce 50,000 times the energy that we now use.

Dan, the geothermal north of China Lake is under D.O.D. domain, not going to be a big boom here anytime soon. (unfortinatly) B.R.A.C. is still holding back on man power #'s for China Lake so.... Let's all just hang out at Ricks ranch.

No, the wind chill factor is maybe 30o but we have had a brisk "desert breeze!"saw ice in the wet spots just two day's ago, time to head south! Lows at night have been 26o much more the norm than last year's 16o.
Still miday's are low 60's

Rebbi, it looks like I have to spell it out. On the trailer, I left a steel pole. It has 4 square plates of steel welded to arms that pivot. It's made to be used as a target. The squares are of 3 different sizes. When you shoot them [with small caliber] the square and arm flip over. It comes back to position to be shot again. There are 4 small lugs welded to the pole to be used to attach guy cables. Hopefully, they are located low enough that none of your urban cowboy friends will shoot off the guy cables.
Your current shooting bench is about 15 feet from the collection of well perforated targets. I suggest that you mount the pole at least 50 ft. from the bench. Rebar stakes and steel wire will hold it.
Your current batch of targets aren't really much of a test of accuracy. Especially at 5 yards.
Yes, the pole can be cut off with bullets if you try. If you want to disuade the wanna be Wyatt Earps, you should mount a piece of angle steel on the top 3 feet to deflect bullets.
If you want to have real contests, you need to spray paint the target after each shot to know exactly where the bullet hit. I don't think that the target will stand anything bigger than 9 mm. That might even be too big. 22 is always best because it's the cheapest..
At the big commercial ranges, they use 1 inch thick steel plate and it only lasts for about 6 months. I suppose that you could set up the target farther from your encampment and revive the tradition of drive-by shooting.
If you need something more exciting, you might look for tracer ammo. It works very nicely for shooting beer bottles full of gasoline. Bon apetite

What a great gift! The little ding adds to the fun of shooting. A note on larger than 22 usage, if you happen to reload.. lighter loads will add to the lifespan of your new toy. Now you just need to add something on the bottom of the travel to set off a little flame effect after a succesful hit/spin. Than you won't have to repaint it

Holy Shit Rabbi!!! you moved your target from 6 yards out to 75 yards. That's going to create problems for non-sober shooters.

I had an idea for power at the RRR ranch. You have a high voltage overhead powerline. There is a field around it. I have a big stack of 4 X 5 ft. sheets of aluminum. I found a cheap supply of clear acetate sheet. I could make up a giant capacitor and we could put it under the high-tension powerline. I've heard of trucks warming up when parked under a HV line.
I'm not sure what voltage or amperage you might pick up but, it might work to charge your batteries if it's handeled right. I also have a stack of copper sheets. If I grab a stack of galvanised sheet, we could make an earth battery. It would mean renting a trencher.
You might ask second opinions on the capacitor idea.

Solar Power System, all systems go....

Well I finally kinda got my hybrid system at about 80% installed I need 2 more large Deep Cycle Batteries to add to the stack and 2 more 45 watt solar panels to add to the single 120 watt that I have working now.

I am currently running a 400 watt Air X, with a 120 watt Harbor Freight Solar Panel, connected to a solar controller that pumps the power to 2 Sears Deep Cycle Gel, and 3 Pep Boys Deep Cycle 12v Batteries, with a 3500 watt back up genny and a with a top of the line Die Hard Battery Charger/ Engine Starter with the 30 amp rapid charge and a 80 amp engine starter. The stack stays a comfortable 12.5v even with the individual constant 12v draw of one of the RV's , I have my internet modem my laptop a set of 110 speakers, my Direct TV box and an old Amiga monitor for Tv veiwing. So far I have had a comfortable 6 hour stretch down to about 12.1 with this particular set-up and that's without the 2 new additional batteries and panels. So I'm thinking once I add those, and change the Amiga Monitor to a 20" 12v LCD TV, I should be able to cover my power needs indeffinately.

One cool thing is when I bought one of the smaller 45 watt so;ar panels also from harbor freight, it came with some nifty 12v 5 watt flourescent bulbs that look like the normal 110v Energy saver style, but 12 volt. It also came with a harness rig that included a normal screw-in base with a 6' cord that ended with a 1/4" banana plug that plugs directly into one of two input jacks on the front of the solar charger, which will run it off of either the panel/wind machine output or the batteries if there is no voltage coming from the panels. the interesting thing is I was thinking of using the bulbs in a normal stly lamp just by replacing the 110v end plug with a cigerette lighter plug which can be plugged in several places throughout both RVs, and normal house lamps will give off more of a homey feel.

Just got the 2 tubs that will be used as hot tubs at golf holes 1 & 2, I am experimenting with the pump and filter systems from inexpensive, above ground pools. I am using two different ones, one that skims the top of the water and filters it and one that pulls its water from the bottom drain provided on the uint. It's gonna take some modifications of course like changing out the 110 pumps for 12v and rigging the outputs to work as a Japanese fountain that returns the water too the pool and a simi-enclosed shower with a hand held spray wand that will drain it's water back into the skimmer drain to be refiltered and cleaned. They will be below ground with 2'x2' brick or paving stone edging around the tub, with a 2' wide ring of the smaller black smooth pebbles as a secondary path around the pavers, with a sturdy two seater wood bench that I will build.

Rick, Ol'ah! from Mex. I am living on the Playa San Jorge & we are running on 90% solar now, wind Gen's are working but they won't hold up to the high winds we get that last 3 or 4 day's 24 hours a day! the breaks give out on them when the wind is above 70 mph, I hope to see you at the burn this year my friend, I miss our visits on the beautiful Mojave. Rabbi, I cut all the steel for the process trailer. I just need to haul it down here and do the welding. I'm glad to see that you are producing more watts.
Worldwide oil exports are dropping fast. I bought some solar panels and a bunch of batteries for my log house up north.
I also started building the GEET. It's a plasma fuel reformer. I started with a Yanmar diesel engine. When I get it all figured out, I'll move up to a bigger engine. I have two- 5cyl and one- 6 cyl diesels to play with.

Just finished reinstalling the jacuzzi now were ready for the water test. Calling my friend to do a water drop tomorrow. tonight I'm soaking my feet, there seems to be more alkiline in the soil than I thought. I seems to be getting signs Playa foot. Broke out the viniger, and a salve made from triple anti-biotic ointment, anti-fungal, and vasiline. Who's next?

Rick, pick up some epsom salt, first soak in the salt's then vinegar! you have to get the posions out first! Old desert trick...pick a few Yacca flowers, leaves if possible the juices make a great salve, Creesote bushes (you have lots (the green oiley looking bush that had the small yellow flowers) they smell bad but are a great medicine plant. Make a tea with the leaves, rub the oils on your aching skin (works good for sun burn). remember the desert you live in has many of the cures!

Everybody is buying up corn futures because of the floods. I expect all meat wil go up. I'm not really sure what you can grow in alkalai soil.
